of course HP are gonna cancel their tablet, they've just got hold of webOS, so they're gonna concentrate development of a tablet with that, rather than release a one shot with windows 7.

like them or not they are selling like hot cakes and faster than the iphone did.

So do Jonas Brother and Nickleback CDs. Does that make them good?

I'm just saying they are doing better than expected. I'm not a huge fan of ipads, but 1 million?!? really? I'm not an idiot. I realize big companies like apple can sell a lot of flashy products. I'm just shocked at how something that everyone was wondering why we needed it has sold so fast.

the GP doesn't really care about the slight differences in specs. they care about how it works. the s10 just seems like a tablet computer. the ipad is quite different from the s10. there are many application designed specifically for the ipad and or the iphone. i doubt there are even a fraction as many apps designed specifically for the s10. again... the ipad is not for computer geeks

Probably has something to do with why the FTC is proposing an investigation into Apple.

http://arstechnica.com/apple/news/2010/ ... th-ftc.ars

I hope they're investigated. I hate how the company can get away with installing Safari as an iTunes update (and not telling you it's happening). If Microsoft pulled the same stunt there would be a media shitstorm.

Even though I am an Apple man, I disagree with their banning of Flash and whatnot. I think it's stupid, unjustified, and will eventually put them in a "catching up" position more than they already are with the iPhone multitasking.

The S10 is very very similar man, yet so much better! Dude, the iPad has a select few apps compared to the S10. The S10 runs Windows 7 Home Premium. Are you trying to say that the iPad has more apps available to it than a PC does? The iPad can't even play videos on YouTube! He//, if I wanted to I could connect my external drive to it and play over 250 HD movies! The iPad is not even powerful enough to handle 1080p content.

i____s definitely can play Youtube videos...there's even a dedicated Youtube app that ships with the device! It can also play a surprisingly large amount of internet video, even with no flash support. And I'd love a tablet that ran a desktop operating system...if they didn't suck. On a desktop OS, your finger becomes the mouse, whereas on a touch-based OS, your finger becomes everything, and it's really a very cool feeling.
The s10 can't handle 1080P content, either...its resolution is only slightly larger than that of the iPad.
On to the apps: yes, there are countless applications designed for a windows computer. guitfiddle was pointing out that here are very few apps designed specifically to take advantage of a multitouch display like that on the s10.

The only people I know who rush to buy the latest iPhone, iPod, or whatever other iCrap that happens to be released are pretentious homos. I have YET to see anyone use an iPhone outside of a twinky gay bar... I'm not kidding.

Sorry to be so blunt about it, but this is honestly what I've noticed.

Sorry, I only heard that it can't do YouTube. Didn't actually see any facts for or against it. If you say it can though than okay.

I've heard desktop operating systems don't work to well for 'touch' use in the past. However according to Microsoft, Windows 7 has taken a different approach to it. Knowing Microsoft I am sure it is not drastically different but I have heard it is easier than it use to be.

As for the s10 not being able to handle 1080P content as well, that is wrong. The iPad physically can not handle it. The s10 can play it back scaled down on its screen, or it can output to an external display and play it back smoothly at full resolution.

Believe me the S10 and similar desktop OS devices are not alone here when it comes to application usability. There is quite a few (not a lot but I've seen them) apps for the iPad that are simply awkward to use with the touch display. One of the great features of the S10 is an actual keyboard and touch pad. If there is ever any difficult applications or if you just don't feel like using the touch display, you can swivel the screen up and around.

So...its another Apple vs Microsoft never-ending debate!

I'm at the Apple camp. We have here an iMac, iPods, iPod Touch, iPhone and Macbook.
All of those devices served me better than any non-Apple product could ever do.
Which is the only reason I have them.
Some might have worse specs, so? I'm not dead with half a Ghz less than your computer.

For the most part Apple products have all of the same hardware you could find in a PC. From the hardware aspect a PC is technically equally reliable as any Mac. So your reason for having them is fairly invalid. If you were referring to the software aspect, than why not just get a PC and put an Apple OS on it? Apples do in fact have worse specs yet still boast much higher costs. You would be dumb, not dead.

Want a quick example of how much Apple rips off consumers? A 1TB hard drive only costs less than $100. I would know because I just bought an additional one for my PC last week. If I had bought it from apple then I would be paying around $300.

Guess what, almost nobody buys those upgrades. And trying to have the Mac OS X on a Windows computer requires hacking and modifying soft- and hardware stuff I'd rather not touch. Since most Macs are quite beautiful and I just like the way everything works out of the box, I'd rather keep it this way. I use my 2007 aluminium iMac every day and it has only failed once to do something I want.

I agree with the fact that there are plenty of touch-awkward apps for iPad. But there are also many more that make it the coolest thing ever to use. Also, I don't know exactly how well it works, but the iPad can connect to an external VGA monitor (never tried it) and probably do the same upscaling as the S10.
And on the iPad, if you want to type a paper of something, hook up a bluetooth keyboard, prop up the screen, and BAM you've got yourself a laptop.
Plus the S10 costs more than the iPad by $100 for the same amount of HD space, so...

Why not put an Apple OS on a PC? Because I'm pretty sure that's illegal and/or impossible. Correct me if I'm wrong.
Apple's products are not actually overpriced if you get the right computer. For example, take the top-of-the-line, 27" iMac. I built a custom PC online (using parts from newegg) with the help of my PC-fanboy, computer-geek buddy with exactly the same specs, and it cost $100 more than the equivalent iMac. And this PC that we built wasn't even an all-in-one: in my opinion, the compactness of all-in-ones is worth a couple hundred dollars.
Granted, Apple's lower-end models can be pricey compared to their PC counterparts, but they get progressively closer to equal prices as your specs shoot up.

This is how people can tell you're delusional. A rip off is still a rip off even if you choose not to invest in it. The fact is it is an astronomical rip off. Remember when the iPhone's price was cut in half and they could STILL make money off of it? Maybe it's all of the child labor that helps cut costs...

You should be a politician. "It probably can" is not an argument, it's you quite frankly making poop up. Why don't you actually TRY to do this before making it up?

Interesting how you're open to correction here but can still make things up earlier when it relates directly to the device you like.

Happily. Proof that the 27" iMac is cheaper than an identical PC:

http://dl.dropbox.com/u/6619036/Shopping%20cart.pdf
yes, I know I chose "next day" shipping. This is because Apple ships it for free within 24 hrs. Also, I noticed after the fact that I neglected to include a sound card. Instead of re-uploading the file, I kindly ask that you add $60 to whatever the final price is to account for this.
Image
Image
I think that's everything that one would need to build their own computer. Add a wireless keyboard (ironically, Apple's was the cheapest on Google shopping) and a magic mouse (honestly, nothing at all compares to the magic mouse, and for these purposes, let's assume it would work with a PC) to bump that price up another $130 and we're at nearly $1500 (you'll hit 1500 when you add random cables and whatnot that are required to connect everything inside the computer).
And, we still don't have the monitor. The closest thing I could find online to the iMac's monitor cost $400, and this was a 24", 1080p LED monitor. Apple's is a 27", 2560x1440 LED monitor, so I estimated conservatively to give $500 for the monitor. We're now at $2000 for the PC, compared to $1899 for the student-priced, identical iMac.
Finally, add the hours it takes to build the damn thing and I'd say we're well past the $2000 mark, and we're still without the all-in-one convenience.
