I have Vista and it runs great.
You should've pointed out that users with PCs, that aren't good enough for Vista, didn't like it...
I personally prefer it to Win7...

ALso, from my observation, only people who didn't earn their money, or who earned it "the easy way" buy macs, others actually care about their savings...

Okay then, well we can only get soo close. That specific Apple display is not available for purchase separately. However Dell has a 27" with the same resolution if it really matters that much. There is literally no reason to have such a high resolution (for the general consumer) in the first place but to be picky. It's not available on Newegg but doing a quick Google search I found several at the $1000 mark. The other change I made was a bump up to a 24x burner for the obvious reason that it is cheaper, and 8x just doesn't make sense. Why pay more for a slower speed? Haha, similar argument. As for the rest of the equivalent iMac (The one that is $1999): http://img24.imageshack.us/img24/7938/37509019.png

Using the magic of Google Shopping, I have managed to create a PC better than the 27" iMac you moan about, for ?????????693.37.
AMD Black Edition - AMD Phenom II X2 3.1 GHz Processor = ?????????62
Kingston 4GB, 667MHz, DDR2 RAM, ECC, CL5, DIMM 240-pin, 1.8V, 256M X = ?????????30.26
Hitachi Deskstar 1 TB Internal hard drive - 300 MBps - 7200 rpm = ?????????49
Samsung SH-S223L Internal SATA DVD-SM Drive With Lightscribe = ?????????25.99
Gigabyte GeForce GTS 250 1024MB GDDR3 PCI-Express Graphics Card = ?????????109.99
ASUS M4A77TD - motherboard - ATX - AMD 770 - Socket AM3 = ?????????52
Casecom Shiny Black Mid Tower Case with Front 120mm Red LED Fan - ... = ?????????21.43
Retail Boxed 800w Quiet PSU Power Supply Unit Twin 80mm Fan = ?????????25.99
Acer B273HU bmidhz 27" Widescreen LCD Computer Display = ?????????266.46
Saitek Eclipse 2 Backlit Keyboard = ?????????29.99
Saitek Cyborg V.3 USB Gaming Mouse CCB440700002/06/1 = ?????????20.26
Total: ?????????693.37

It may need a few small things, like an OS, I'd be more than happy with Ubuntu. I doubt anything else will cost ?????????800 more.

iMac 27-inch: 2.66GHz = ?????????1,634.00
The custom PC = Under half that price.

The keyboard on the mac is a backlit one, the Gateway's is not.

I don't work in the dark like an emo. Chances are if I'm using a computer in a dark area, I'm being an asshole to those around me anyways so I wouldnt' do it to begin with.

it's not just for using it in the dark; it's evening car rides, or dimly-lit bus rides, or presentations, etc....

Also as mentioned, the 5 hours of battery life - again, a huge advantage

When are you using your computer and are more than 10ft away from an electrical outlet on a day to day basis?

City bus, road trips, plane rides, using it in the park, etc.

That 1.8 cm? Almost an inch, or about a 40% difference in thickness.

Don't care. How thick it is does not affect its ability to type a paper and be practical. All laptop bags end up being like 3-4 inches thick anyways, thus defeating the point in having a thin computer to begin with.

it's a big advantage because if you keep your laptop in the laptop sleeve of your backpack, you have more room for books with a thinner computer.

And the Gateway ships with Vista, which not even PC users liked.

So buy Windows 7 with the 1000 dollar savings if it matters so much.

Macs work perfectly right out of the box. And as mentioned before, Apple's one OS version has all of the features you'll ever need. No need to hassle with picking the right version of Windows.
Notice how my "of your parents money" comment was never challenged?

It was never challenged by me because up until now, I've used my parents money, so it was perfectly true. But, I bought my iPad with my own, recently-earned money via a job I just got, and I now know what it feels like to use my own money to buy something I want. And I know that if I were to replace my desktop, it'd be with an all-in-one. I had a "normal" computer for 8 years before my iMac, and it was hell. I had the ugliest desktop in the world (likely because we went on the cheap with that particular computer, so the monitor and case were BLEH) and a quick look behind my desk would reveal a horrible mess of cables and wires and poop like that which would take me 5 minutes to sort through just to find the damn power cable.

^^all right, I concede. That's all I wanted.

It doesn't get stolen on the bus?

You're on a road trip/plane everyday? Why don't you walk around in the park instead of collecting fat at a table on the computer?

Carry around lots of art books do we?

Aside from the security holes waiting to be exploited.

Is that why they charge 100 bucks for an update?

I'd just keep the Vista that came with it but whatever.

Okay fairyboy I'm sorry the computer didn't match your decor.

So your argument is that you're too stupid to shake a wire to figure out which one is which?

When your cables were as tangled as mine were, shaking it doesn't quite do the trick.

Kane: ok, no abortions for anyone...
People: Booooo!
Kane: Abortions for some, miniature american flags for others
People: Yay!!!

I wish we would all shut up about this. Just going in circles. If I was a sensible buyer I'd buy whatever computer was on the clearance rack. But I wouldn't be as happy with my purchase as I am with my mac. I did my research, shopped around, and decided that I wanted to spend my money on a mac. I'm sorry I didn't arrive at the same conclusion as the PC people. Guess that makes me pretty stupid. Oh well...

Unlike Pontiac, Apple isn't out of business.

I have to put this, sorry if its off-topice, but it really show how screwed up apple is..

http://www.cracked.com/article_18377_5-reasons-you-should-be-scared-apple.html

See, I bought my computer (a pc) for about $600 with my money from working. Why the hell would I want to spend $2000 some Ishit product when I can make probably two months of truck payments and Insurace, My phone bill, oh don't forget gas, and some can going to paying off college. Yeah I don't feel the need to spend that on a computer thats is just good looking. oh, and yeah 3 pounds more is not that much, get over it. Try hanging 8x12x1/2 sheets of drywall on a a ceiling and get back to me on that.
