Well, since the time I began using NL I have been using single-core processors with integrated graphics cards and 512mb-1gb of RAM. So needless to say, my FPS have always sucked pretty hard. On average I get around 25-30fps on a bare-bones no water and scenery coaster, with B&M's being much worse on the FPS.Anyways, now that its time for college (University of Michigan - Biomedical Engineering if anyone cared(most likely not)) I'm finally upgrading to a nice laptop. However, I wanted to make sure that the stats I have chosen will allow NL to run at a decent/high speed. The stats are:

Dell Studio 15
Intel????????? Core????????? i7-720QM Quad Core Processor 1.6GHz(2.8GHz Turbo Mode)
Windows 7 64bit
4gb ddr3 ram (upgrading to 6 is possible but I'd rather save the $$$)
ATI Mobility Radeon????????? HD 5470, 1GB
720p screen if that matters

Well, thats it. I'm fairly confident that it should work, but since all of my open house money is going into it I want to make sure my investment will be worth it. Thanks.

I'm sure it'll run just fine. I've got a 3 GHz dual-core processor, 4 GB RAM, and 256 MB of video memory, and I get a constant 100 FPS on simple rides, and that'll rarely drop below 70 on a scenery-heavy ride. Don't worry about a thing!

Cool beans. I'm glad I won't have to deal with getting all excited for a ride like the MF recreation and then being crushed when I open it and find out I get a solid 4 FPS the whole time anymore after I get this thing ordered.

LOL even that one killed my FPS. I averaged about 20, and it fluctuated between 100 (looking up the airtime hills) to 2 (looking at Mantis). That thing was insane.

That's a pretty nice laptop actually! I wish I had enough money to get those kinds of stats in a desktop let alone a lappy, haha. I think it'll be a good buy!

I have a Dell Studio 1535 from when they first came out and I have a few incompatibilities with the NL editor not the simulator. It is very difficult to place nodes (especially support nodes).

I have an ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3400 Series graphics card so you may possibly want to rethink that from a graphics card choice or perhaps look into the compatibility a little more.

The screen is more likely to be 1366x768 instead of 720p due to manufacturing. (I've never seen a 1280x720 screen actually; they only make 1280x800 as the closest which can also handle 720p video sources.)

The graphics you have is a bit on the lower end but should still do a much better job than any onboard chip. I don't know if the i7 is good for it's price though, but it may be worth it if you have a lot of muiti-threaded tasks.

The real question is how well it will run NL2, but if it can run any modern games reasonably, then it should run NL2 just fine. Right now, the main concern on NL1 is polys and textures (since almost no one optimizes their 3ds's) but shaders will be important for modern games and NL2. I'm sure the 5470 should be able to handle it reasonably enough though.
