Liseberg, a park in Sweden, will receive next year the highest freefall tower of Europe. Which will be standing 146 meters (480ft) tall above sea level and dropping a whopping 116 meters (380ft). It concerns to be a conversion of their current observation tower to an Intamin Freefall tower. The ride will be called: AtmosFear
Some concept artwork:
Liseberg tower to become a unique freefall attraction
AtmosFear will be the tallest free fall attraction in Europe, in terms of both the fall height and the building in which it is housed. There is really only one other attraction in the world that can be compared with AtmosFear, and that is in Australia.
The ride starts underground in the basement of the tower, and from there it takes around 90 seconds to reach the top. The return journey is somewhat faster ????????? you are in free fall for just over three seconds. Reaching a speed of over 100 kilometres per hour, passengers plummet back underground, as the brakes aren?????????t applied until you reach the basement. During braking, passengers are subjected to the maximum g-force allowed: 4 g.
Liseberg Tower, which was opened in 1990, has served for 20 years as a comfortable lookout point. Now the protective gondola is to be removed and replaced with seats and safety bars. This means that passengers will sit out in the open air with their legs dangling free as they fall. AtmosFear will be constructed by Intamin, the well-known builder of Liseberg attractions such as Balder, K?????????llerado and Kanonen.
Because building work will begin on Monday, Liseberg Tower will be closed to the public after the weekend. Until then there are free rides for everyone who wants to enjoy the views from the tower. All activities in the foyer of the tower and the 3D film, Sammy?????????s Adventures, will continue as usual throughout the season. AtmosFear will open in spring 2011.
AtmosFear Stats:
Height of tower: 116 meters
Elevation above sea level: 146 meters
Speed: 110 kph
g-force: 4 positive G
Constructed by: Intamin
Number of passengers per run: 36
Brake type: magnetic
Ride time: approx. 2 minutes
Capacity: 600 passengers/hour
Interesting facts:
AtmosFear is more than three times as high as the highest point on Balder. The maximum speed of 110 kilometres per hour is the same as the speed limit on most Swedish motorways. The hole that you pass through when you drop below ground level is 13 metres in diameter. The tower itself has a diameter of 3.1 metres, and the seats project three metres from the outside of the tower. From the top you can see the whole of Gothenburg ????????? if you dare to look down that is!
