So, I heard some rumors behind the expected plans of Gadv for 2011. Supposedly GASM is being removed to make way for Chang. Along with more flatrides and a possible reopening of the Old Country section of the park

The supposed date of closing for GASM is July 1st, 2010.

As for me, I am torn by this. I love Gasm and dread seeing it go, but I've never ridden a standup and Chang is highly regarded. Either way, I have to make my way down to Gadv sometime in the next 9 days...

Yeah, I heard that too. But it's getting too difficult to find parts for it, S&S is focusing on their new models, not Arrow's old ones. It's a shame, but it is almost necessary.

Though it's sad, GASM has been operating for 21 years, and Arrows aren't built to take a heavy beating. I'm amazed it has lasted this long, especially with the flimsy supports and the stress that both the track trains endure. Kindga Ka goes over twice as fast as this thing, yet GASM shakes far more violently. I think a standup coaster would be a good replacement, especially if it's better than Shockwave.

Woah! I called that one last June. I said, "Great American Scream Machine is next to go." Called it.

I could care less about GASM. However, it seems that SFGAdv is collecting B&Ms. Only need a diver if this is true.

I'm not certain I would replace a 21-year-old ride with a 13-year-old ride; at least not without a major rehab. Every ride has an End of Life, and Arrows are not necessarily more susceptible, but rather parks are opting for newer technology that provides a smoother experience. It is sad to see these old rides go, after all, they are the reason we have what we have today!

I think its not good to remove a classic like GASM,but Chang looks pretty good...
Anyway I hope that GASM will moved to another park and rebuilt there.
All RCCAs should be RMC'd. And that event shall be henceforth known as the Rollercaust.

99.99% chance it's getting scrapped. It's too old, to hard to maintain, and just a royal pain in the ass. Even if it was rebuilt, it would be a waste of money, as it would have to come down very soon after that.

I only rode GASM once about 5 years ago and I enjoyed it even though it is an Arrow. If it does go hopefully it'll be a good move for Six Flags (for once).

I don't get where all the hatred is coming from towards GASM. When I went to GAdv, it was in my top 3 coasters there.
Boulder Dash was the only good roller coaster.

It's because New Yorkers are pussies and don't realize they have an improvement over the Chicago model that didn't have half as many problems as the one in Chicago did.

It's the same goddamned ride with better transitions and a first loop that doesn't crack in half at the base every year.

Still a mediocre ride. I'm too tall for it to be remotely comfortable so I say scrap it! haha...but ugh Chang looks like a good ride, but getting it means we won't get something new and much better (and more unique for the park). Bummer.

Yeah, since Kingda Ka and El Toro don't really make the park "unique"...
Oh, were you expecting something here?

I loved GASM when I rode it...but I'm short so I fit nice and comfortably lol. I liked it...I think it'd make more sense for something like Rolling Thunder to go, but I don't think there is enough room for Change nor is it the right shape of land.

GASM has it's place in the history books as a stepping stone for what got us here today. As much as I hate to say it, It's time has come, and we cannot save them all and turn a profit at the same time.

B & Ms hold up a lot better in the long run then arrows do. Some of the B & M out there have upwards of 3M cycles on them.

Now that I have thought about it some, They could salvage the loop, the boomerang, lift, and the station section and make a ghetto boomerang on the cheap. It would be a worlds first, a worlds worst, and funny as hell at the same time.

Regardless of what you guys think, I saw it as a really fun ride. Yeah, you had to man up to the pain a bit, but it wasn't bad at all.

When I went to SFGAdv in 06 or 07 I really wanted to ride it because I liked Viper at SFMM, but they were welding a new piece of track in place then!

It doesn't really surprise me that its difficult to maintain rides which don't have an active manufacturer.

I'm afraid that we'll loose more and more arrows in the next years...
Its a classic but if the maintain is so expensive...
I'm sure they save some little parts of GASM for a comemorative plaque, and maybe recycle other parts for maintenace of other arrows.

There is no way... Great America has had plans to build Chang for at least a year. They even got a height variance aproval this month.
