I know this may sound like a newbie topic, but in reality I am one. Especially with 3DS. For my current project I need an underground tunnel. What are the best methods for doing this?

find one in a different ride if you can use it, and ask that person if you could use their tunnel.. Or pm someone with the 3d experience and ask them to make you a tunnel.

To make a pitch black spacehole, make a black catwalk box just under the land inside the hill and make the coaster go through the black catwalk box. To hide the land in the black hole entrance put a catwalk just over the land so that it lays on top of it. Then you can put triangles, bars, littl figures,, bright colors, strobes, shapes, poles, and other WTH stuff inside the box.

With object creator you can do it, it would just take a while because it's less advanced, and thats a free program.

What about anim8or? I also have the free version of sketchup, and the tunnel maker.

Or you could make some nice looking fog in a program that can export .3ds's properly with transparent .png's and use that to mask the ground. For the image, just go to photoshop and paint up a smoke cloud using the appropriate settings against a transparent background, but don't let the edges get cut off on the canvas.

The most elegant method of underground tunneling is to partially or entirely rely on .3ds's by using .3ds's for the underground section and ground above, or by making the entire terrain a .3ds, respectively. With the latter, you don't get ugly terrain texture seams and you have more control over the shape and texture of the terrain. Unfortunately, it's also a complete pain in the ass to do especially when supporting.

For the time being, sticking to the easy method by having the track collide into the ground is the easiest way. If filming the ride, beware that there will be no way (other than with onboard view) to see underground.

He said he wasn't making a spacehole, and catwalks are only 4 sided so it's not possible to get them to line up with NL's curved tunnel. So what do you use? 3DS's, duh.

I know this is resaying things, but what you could use is a space hole -_-

but then use the TunnelMaker program and make an enclosed 3ds tunnel with it.

so why is no one interested in giving out construction kit CD keys? because i need to be able to convert a lot of tracks, and convert them when it suits me :(

Illegal or not, no one really cares since it can't be enforced and people need the tools. People don't pass keys around mostly to stick to the safe side.

If you look around the tubes well enough you'll find a working CK. *wink
