Hi Guys!

Everything is running fine, but something odd is happening.

Whenever I look into the sun [on the sim. :)] the frame rate decreases to 15. I can have all the settings at full/best and it runs at approximately 72fps, but whenever it has to render that sun flare, it slows right down.

I thought I could make a sunless enviroment, but I don't think that can be done... Been a fan of NL since it came out, shame this should happen on my new machine! Haha.

Thanks peeps.

Matt Slade

Press F3 to disable the solar flares and just leave them off. Make sure your version of NL and graphics drivers are up to date. I assume you don't have any issues with framerate elsewhere.

Or you could just get a PC...
Boulder Dash was the only good roller coaster.

I'm a Graphic Designer so you can forget your PC. HAHA!

And thank you! That worked. Didn't really like the flare anyway. Gets kind of annoying when you're riding! Ha.

Thanks CoasterAgent99!

Very occassionally, someone will make a coaster with an environment that uses custom solar flares. They end up looking pretty cool too but you won't get to see them.

Either way, even if you keep the solar flares off, I'd still highly recommend driver/software updates.

Plus, all those nice NL tools don't work on the Mac. =p Maybe you'll get to use them in NL2.

Just bought a brand new quad core iMac and was so impressed with the frame rates being permanently 100fps. Yet when i rode it onride it would go through patches where the fps dropped to 15. Then worked out it was only really when looking up.
So happy i saw the thread, cant belive simply turning off solar flare solved it (hold fn and press F4).

Cheers guys!

This is a bug with your GPU conflicting with NL - try a software/driver update. I've run NL on my brothers 2006 Macbook (integrated graphics, obviously inferior hardware compared to your setup too) - and when I look at the sun, the FPS don't change at all.

That is the exact same machine I have. Pretty simple solution I suppose! Haha. There aren't any current updates, so I guess it's something the boffins are working on as we speak.

With that turned off, I can have all the settings on full, and on a mildly complex track get 100fps.

I'm happy. Thanks people!
