Hi there!

After a search (please, avoid topic title like "HELP!!', please), I didn't find answer so, here is my question:

Is there any advice, any how-to, on how to smooth our tracks?

I mean, I always got problems on smoothing my tracks on vertices.. especially where they are banked..

So.. if someone have any clue..

Well, you just need to keep tweeking it. If you seem to "bump up" at the vertex then pull to controle out more. If you seem to "bump down" at the vertex them pull the control in more. If the track is coming into, or is in a twist, then try turning on "con roll" and see if that helps. Other than that you really just have to play with it until it's smooth. Use the "track view" (go to the 3d view and click on the "ride on coaster" button beside the green light, and stop sign. Then use "w" and "s" to move along the track) in the editor and go over the spot over and over while your tweeking.

A good concept that I'm starting to practice is, never adding onto the coaster until I KNOW what I have so far is nearly perfect. On my current project I built a good deal of track, made it smooth, then rode it in the simulator and had some very high g's. So I then had to fix the G problems, then I realized that part of the track I had wouldn't work. So I had to get rid of alot of very smooth track. Pretty much wasting hours of work.

Another thing, don't just fix the vertice that has an unsmooth transition. Make that vertice as smooth as you can make it, then work on the one before it. Try to make the transition a little more gradual. This is important to do becuase its alot easier to make it feel smooth.

I don't know about that, I think that that is a good method, but what I do, is I build the coaster with minimal smoothing. but I make it in a way that I know that later one I can smooth it out. When I'm finished then I go around smoothing out things. I only do this because even if the coaster is perfect up to a point and you have to change a smoothed out part becasue you'd like the coaster to do something that it can't currently do, then you'll have waisted alot of time.

Yet another good method, just ride it backwards. In contrast to riding forward, you can't see what is coming up. Doing this allows you to see flaws MUCH easier. Heck (I just got this idea don't know if it will work) Make every segment a transport segment. Use Tia's tool for making the coaster go backwards and set each of the transport segments to go 40mph or so. If you need to slow it down or speed it up, just push + or - to do this. This is just an idea. If anyone tries it out please tell me I'm curious to see if it works.

hey, that's a good idea, but you don't really have to make it go backwards, why don't you just ride through the coaster from a seat other than the front one, then you can see how much the coaster in front of you is being "bumped" around

I have just started using C2 on almost every vertex and it makes my coaster so smooth [:D]

Well.. for myself, I made part by parts.. like Coaster Indavidual.. but knowing that sometimes, if I change a little portion, it will impact on the two or three last segments..

But that's true that I can make more vertices (correct word?) to control my transition.. and/or using C2..

One of the best tactics you can use is trying to use very fe verticies. When you have too many of them, it takes an incredible ammount of effort to smooth them out, so try to have about 3 verticies in a corner. And, Viking86, the C2 method does tend to nake the transitions alot better overall. Another thing is that you cannot make the sides of the verticies too short. If one side is short, then you will experience a sudden jolt.

YOu ride backwards becuase you don't SEE what is comming up. If you saw what was comming up, anticipate it and ultimantly lower the acual impact of a differnt movement. A good example is the Indiana Jones coaster at Disneyland Paris. It ran forward for years, then they wanted to make it more exciting by going backwards. But in the process they had to adjust the track banking for this very same reason.

I suggest practicing a lot. I probably made about 150 coasters with no supports or anything else just for the sake of practicing making mine smoothe. Even now that i am better (thought still not perfect) i probably make at least 2 tracks a day just to practice smoothing. I also suggest looking at coaster other people made (if they are really smooth) to see what they did. It might not help, but it helped me with some of my inversions. my final tip: never use any elements that came with the game. they are bad, plus you dont get practice smoothing out your track. and BTW coaster indavidual's tip about riding backwards helps a whole lot.

Coaster Individual -> Yes, I see what you're talking about (perso, I don't like Indiana Jones backwards).. and yes, riding my own tracks backwards helps..

PunkRock69: Yes, I'm practicing as much as I can.. I have my playground coaster (I like it but I don't think I'll UpLoad it).. but to practice, time is needed.. and I don't have enough time to do it alot.. but I'm won't keep up.. :^)


And after some tries.. I delete the three vertices causing problems and have done another banking system and done a.. hum.. "sliding loop" (???) over 30 meters.. :^)
