Trust me; no one is going to send you one, for two reasons. One, very few people have the reg'd version, and number two, it's stealing.

^it's not stealing, it's just one of those stupid things that shouldn't be illegal, but it is.

Well by my understanding, and by legal standing, not paying for the registered version, which is property owned by Tia, is illegal. Is it stupid considering the purchasing is no longer available? Yes, but it doesn't mean it's not stealing.

I wouldn't look at it as stealing considering he wouldn't physically be taking anything from Tia. If she doesn't notice the difference between RideWarriorNation having the registered version and him not having it, than I see no harm done. I honestly think there would be nothing wrong with "borrowing" the software until Tia asks for the money. Kind of like going to a gas station and opening a soda before you purchase it. If you get the counter set the bottle down and the guy doesn't ask for any money.. Well now that is his problem isn't it?

Its not borrowing if you have no intention of paying someone back.

In this case, the clerk is on break, and you and your friends are sneaking your sodas out the back door and handing them to other people.

What I find funny is that most of you download music and movies illegally every day and have no problem with that, but when somebody asks for the key of a product that is no longer sold and has voided its copyright, you get up in arms over it.

According to copyright.gov:

How long does a copyright last?
"As a general rule, for works created after January 1, 1978, copyright protection lasts for the life of the author plus an additional 70 years."

Do I have to renew my copyright?
"No. Works created on or after January 1, 1978, are not subject to renewal registration. As to works published or registered prior to January 1, 1978, renewal registration is optional after 28 years but does provide certain legal advantages."

So just because the software says "Copyright 2004" doesn't mean that the copyright is void in 2005. You only need to renew a copyright if you change something...which she has not.

Unless you know of something that has voided the copyright otherwise, it is still copyrighted material.

Today's music isn't even worth downloading anyway. Maybe if the record companies didn't want their property to be downloaded illegally, they would hire people who can actually write music.

(And not all modern music is bad, but you should still pay for stuff if you enjoy it.)

Tia has legally abandoned the product. For now only original license holders are legally entitled to breaking or hacking the software to regain original functionality that would have been granted to them under there originally purchased license.

There is currently a case in the courts that is dealing with "abandon-ware" and the rights of others. So this may change upon ruling in that case.

The main factor preventing trading the CK around is the fact that it dabbles in legal grey zone and is a liability. Thus if you need the CK, you have to know where to look to get it by yourself, or have others export/tool the tracks for you. (That and people somehow still think it's wrong to trade software you can't buy anyway, regardless of whether you need it or not and that it'll never be for sale anymore.)
