Not much into Dick Dale, but Jaco Pastorias(RIP), was the by far the best jazz bass player on earth.

One of my friends listens to Brand New but i have to say i'm not really a fan. They just lack something that Morrissey has. I have to say the music i listen to is massively influenced by the city i live in. Manchester has a different music scene to anywhere else i visit in the UK. The smiths, Joy Division, Oasis, Stone Roses, Ian Brown, with the newest one being Delphic are all more popular there than chart music. I think that is probably why i don't get Brand New. They lack the Northern melancholy brooding that i like a lot, and is what in my opinion, makes Joy Division and The Smiths so successful.

And yes, Yeasayer are bloody brilliant. Easily one of my favourite albums at the moment! For anyone who hasnt heard them....

Im also seeing them in October :D Hope you have fun man. My friend got to interview them last year, and said they were awesome as well. Which makes me even more excited :)

i can see where youre coming from. it depends on the brand new youve heard though, you may have only heard some singles or their earlier taking back sunday-sounding tunes.. if you havent already heard them, you should try listening to millstone, jesus christ, and play crack the sky. those songs are somewhat brooding that you might find appealing. just a suggestion!

link doesnt work, ill try one.

this song is ridiculous. awesome man! good, ive heard they are incredible live. ill let you know how much it blows my mind. have you heard their first album (or second, you never specified which one youve have)?

It's unfortunate all of these above bands were not created in Russia. They'd last 3 days in the gulag and then the worldwide misery they've cause would be over.

"George Bush is stupid" is not a revolutionary or edgy statement, however Green Day somehow has made this almost their entire basis for everything they've done aside from like 1 good song on an old album. It's nice if someone thinks he is stupid, however that should be followed up with a "because ________" reason explaining the statement, not repeating "don't want to be an american idiot" or "121 guns" over and over again with zero context.

Fall Out Boy are a bunch of pussies. The cumstain of a lead singer went to my rival highschool. Both of my schools sucked and people in my neighborhood are terrible. All of my family has yet to find a group of people more terrible than the ones we live around in the United States. Tina Fey visited my hometown and was so disgusted with the people and the culture of the area that she wrote Mean Girls using the names of various places around where I live and the whole theme of the area. Don't listen to his trash.

OK Go: Your dumb treadmill video was low budget because you suck too much to do better.

Metallica just irritates me for no honest good reason, so sorry metal people. It could be that I really really hate Enter Sandman and everything they do reminds me of Enter Sandman.

Staind: Delivering what dumb 14 year old girls think in song format via a white guy with a shitty eyebrow ring since 1995. Honestly they were around in early high school and I thought they died. Then again Green Day proves horrific suck lives forever.

Evanescence: I read somewhere that the hack lead singer is like the choir girl that was kinda good but not really that great and was encouraged to "project her voice". That is a great analogy to Evanescences' lead singer because all of their songs are her screeching with a subtle background limping along in the shadows.

Muse: I actually like a fair amount of their music, they just seemed to be primarily worshipped by people who were not taught to use soap in the shower and code computers for a living. And then they were put on the Twilight soundtrack. Ugh

I would normally berate techno but as long as it doesn't fit into the category of techno where it all sounds the goddamned same and it's done right it can be tolerable in like a movie soundtrack or something. So I'll my dislike for it "not my thing" and not say it's outright crap.

Not a ton of country mentioned thank god. Country REALLY all sounds the goddamned same. Then again the genepool that produces country is probably so inbred it helps encourage this similarity.

Metal just isn't my thing.

Here are some bands I like that REALLY should have been mentioned. You all should be ashamed of yourselves for forgetting these. I'm really shocked no one mentioned them:
-Band of Horses
-White Rabbits (Good piano usage)
-MGMT (at Jay knows they exist)
-Silversun Pickups
-System of a Down
-The Heavy

Here are some I like a bit and I'm surprised nobody mentioned. Then again most of you are emos that have music tastes that deserve to be hit by a hydrogen bomb:
-Smashing Pumpkins (I hate the singer's voice and the band in general but I always respected them. 1979 or 89 or whatever is their best)
-Nirvana (dislike for no good reason like Metallica but since they're not pussies with Napster they're much better than them)
-Foo Fighters (thank you whoever mentioned them, you have an uncorrupted soul)
-Chevelle (close to being on the "you tards should have mentioned them" list)
-Red Hot Chili Peppers
-White Stripes (also close to being on the "you tards should have mentioned them" list)
-Tokyo Police Club
-Blink 182 (newer stuff is crap but they had their time)
-Phoenix
-Interpol
-Radiohead
-Powerman 5000
-The various Les Claypool ensembles (I know he is a bit of "stunt bassist" as Jay calls him but there really are a few CD's worth of good stuff in the sea of "meh" he has created). Also sounding like yourself live in concert is rare these days (see the piles of poop I mentioned first above. They don't sound like themselves live (most))

If you're a diehard fan of anyone I wrote a blurb about at the very top, stop doing what MTV and Kiss FM (not sure if this is a Chicago only station, if yes, sorry!) tells you to do.

Thank you all for keeping this thread Nickleback and mostly rap free.

It took 5 minutes. When people aren't stupid they can formulate an idea quickly.

And I do like Gorillaz but sometimes I feel like they limp along solely on their singles.

^Yeah, I stopped listening to Metallica when the album with Enter Sandman debuted. I was all excited, put in the CD and said "What the f**k is this? This isn't the Metallica I grew up on." They were never the same after Cliff Burton died.

Bands that sound like themselves live or better than their album are:

Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers
David Bowie
ACDC
Alice In Chains (with the new singer)
Slayer
The Mars Volta
Suffocation (for the hardcore death metal fans)

These bands are a must see, live.

Click here http://www.myspace.com/hatredtothecore to listen to one of my old bands, Burncycle, 3 song demo if you're interested. Let me know what you think. I drew the band logo.

Judging by Freddie's avatar he'd to happy to read this.

I've been finding myself getting more and more addicted to Lightning Bolt every day.

Yay, someone finally mentions Radiohead.
Smashing Pumpkins
Pearl Jam
Soundgarden
Muse
Radiohead
White Stripes
And I used to like Guns n' Roses but I got bored...

My hate list:
Most stuff created after 2000
Green Day (singer is so suckish and the guitar is skill-less)
Blink-182 (sounds really crap if you ask me)
Pendulum (can't help but feel that it's all the same...)
Coldplay (played way too much in supermarkets. Admittedly X&Y was a great Album but these days they kind of suck)
Linkin Park (smells)

Oh look, it's this thread again.

Regardless, my two "most played" bands (I guess this makes them my favourite) ar probably:

- Rammstein
- Arch Enemy

Two pretty different kinds of music I think you'll agree.

I listen to a pretty massive array of genres though. What decides what I like is if the music sounds good, to go with a certain mood perhaps and whether or not it was made by a talented idividual or set of individuals (which as you can imagine rules out rap music).

I'll listen to pretty much anything, from Black Metal, through Melodic Death Metal, through Drum and Bass all the way to stuff like Paramore and Avril Lavigne and other manufactured shite. I also love a lot of orchestral music, especially if it's renditions of music from video games.

I don't understand the hate lists. Last time I can recall, we all have different favorite foods and colors and, i dunno, what we like to listen to. This is a favorite bands topic. Not a hate thread.

Buuuuuut, as I said before, it is entertainment.
