Hey All,

I've kinda been subtly mentioning that I finally got Newton 2 to work on my Sony Laptop and have been dying to use it. I've been working on this for about 3 weeks now and have the track work and about half of the supports done at this point. I'd like to make some 3Ds and have so terrain terraforming to it if I can, but since I've never really sat down before and tried to make a full out ride with all custom supports and themeing with 3Ds etc. all in the same ride, I'm looking for some pointers on what process to use etc. Should I be terraforming before I do supports? If I should then oh well. For the 3Ds I'm just talking about simple things like rocks and objects etc. and a ride sign for the station and line or something. I'll post some screenshots too of the progress.

Here are a few looks at the tack and supports so far.

All supports and custom with the flanges which take forever might I add for the few of you who may not have tried it before. I know it is kind of a standard layout in terms of the order of inversions, but I wanted to start out simple for my first Newton ride. Plus if I can add 3Ds and scenery I think it can still look pretty awesome.

Ok...all of thge supports so far are a 3 with the exception of the highest set on the lift and predrop...those are 4. I'll adjust them and repost pics.

my first thought of the first pic was "that kinda looks like a kraken and medusa(bizzaro) mix."

Yea I know it kinda looks similar. This is the first coaster I've done with Newton so I wanted to do a basic layout so I could get a general feel for shaping the elements and just get a good feel for the program. If this turns out ok I'd like to do an invert that is a little more spicy. I know it resembles the two in terms of layout, but I'm ok with that until I can get approval of the trackwork and everything so I can move on to more jazzy and complex layouts.

Edit: Does anyone else think the higher supports on the lift and predrop are too big?

Looks halfway decent, the supports are a wee bit too big, and the shaping is off quite alot, but it is your first newton coaster. Also, you do know there is an auto flanger right??? hahaha

^But auto flanger is a major piece of crap...
And I think the drop shaping is okay. Several early B&Ms had strait drops and from the pic it looks like it's strait.`It looks very realistic to its advantage and well supported.

Yes I know about auto flanger and auto-supporter but I wanna do custom supports and flanging that way really doesn't take too long to the point where it pisses me off. LOL. I wanna do 100% custom work. The drop does look pretty straight but when you ride it you'll find that it isn't quite as straight as it looks. It gives about -0.5 in the back on the drop and -0.1 in the front. And like I said before I didn't want to get too complex with my first Newton coaster. Basically my goal is to have a smooth coaster with a basic, yet realistic layout, look, and feel before I start getting more creative. I am adjusting the lift supports now so I will post pictures when that's all done. I finished the cobra roll supports last night as well. I've pretty much been using (you guessed it!) Kraken and Medusa/Bizarro as my guide for supports since they have similar element in similar orders.

I hope it doesn't drown in the mass of average coasters....

It probably will...but I wanna get all the Newton skills down first before I try and make something outrageous. I've been saving a design idea for Newton until I did a ride or two with it so I may try and go all out on my next one.

there are ways to avoid all the crappy things auto flanger does btw...

Here are the fixed lift supports. Bumped them down a size.

Cause jet coaster trackwork is easy, floorless is another dimension,BTW why do you post that in this thread?

Hey cool5, if you used Elementary you could build that a million times better and more realistic. That's why he used Newton...so his trackwork has the potential to be better than stuff made using your techniques.

A Newton jet coaster actually probably could be pretty good cuz you could still use straight geometry sections to make alot of it.

No, the curved geometry isn't good enough to do that well. Elementary is the way to go.

Well yea elementary is better but Newton could probably do an ok job...just not as good as elementary.
