Based on the tension it brings.

I like Goliath's alot, because right at the top, it just slows down to a near stop giving you the ultimate "OH SH*!" moment. Any other coasters do that?

For me it's either Leap The Dips' lift, or the one on Twister @ Knobels.
Boulder Dash was the only good roller coaster.

I like Hulks. And Steel Force's is good in the very back cuz it seems to take FOREVER for the front to start going down.

my favorite is the titan's at sfot because, like Chicano3000X said about goliath, it slows down right at the peak of the first drop and gives you the "oh sh*t!" moment.

Hulk's isn't so much a lift as it is a tire powered cannon...

Actually, I prefer Millennium Force's lift at night over anything else I've ridden. The views of Sandusky out to the left, and the rest of the park on the right are totally unmatched. While MF is the most majestic coaster I've ever seen, Top Thrill Dragster at night looks just like a beam of light shooting into the night sky when you see it from 200 feet in the air. It's absolutely breathtaking, and I wish I was allowed to take a picture of it because believe me, I totally would.

There are 2 lifts that really stand out for me.

Fahrenheit, and El Toro. They were both oh poop moments, on Fahrenheit I wasn't used to being vertical like that for that long. Then El Toro, well simply enough, my first words on that ride were actually "Holy poop". The last thing you expect is to gain that much speed on a lift.

Maverick's is cool too cuz it slows a bit at the top.

rcking04: nailed it! Straight up, and then cresting the top slowly and getting pushed down the plunge. Especially with Spongebob, you're above the scaffolding at the top of the ceiling for a few seconds, really close to the ceiling. It makes it all the more fierce.

^Too bad Spongebob sucks.

My favorite lift is HRRR...tallest vertical lift in the world I believe, it freaked me out every time.

Voyage is also cool for a woodie because it is super fast and you can feel it tug on the train hardcore.

oblivions lift for the tension. designed to be slow and steep and just get yhe heart racing when on the way up

but the pure WOW factor i really have to say pepsimax the big one t BPB simply because of the totally awsome view of BPB and blackpool itself. when the iluminations are n and you head up that lift hill at 9:30pm at night with the lights on down the golden mile and all over the pleasure beach its magical.

i would opt for a eurofighter but on the 3 i have ridden they all just seemed like they were there for purpose more than tension

For how awesome you imagine it to be when you stand and look at it:

But in all actuality, the best lift hills for building tension are the lift hills found on the B&M dive machines. I have only ridden Oblivion, but the steepness of the lift hill, the massive width of the track, the really loud chain dogs and massive width of the cars alll add up to make you feel pretty anxious, despite having ridden it a million times already.

I love both of The Beast's lift hills. The first gives the false start halfway up; the other points right at the Eiffel Tower, and also provides a great view of the seemingly small helix at the bottom of the drop. Great anticipation.

yeah, gotta be either Pepsi Max Big One at Black Pool or Oblivion.

Crapped myself on The Big One first time I rode it (about 9 yo) because you're so high and i was on the side with no railing lol. And Oblivion purely for the sheer scale of it. Massive cars, massive track, and a massive clunking chain dog. What more could you want.

The one on Griffion absolutely terrified me. The Stop over the drop... Never been that scared on a ride before.

^Thinking the same. Either way I thought SheiKra had a pretty anxious lift! Especially for a first time B&M Diver ride.

You have a point, it's not awesome. For the space they had, they did a decent job I think. Everything before the MCBR is worth while I believe. Then again, it is the only EF I've ridden.
