Wow ftf, looks like they say "wood" and "wooden" a whole lot in that patent, but never a mention of composites...

Freddie, you can say an oak tree trunk isn't made of wood all you want, but that doesn't make it true.

I was not speaking technically when I stated that I did not consider El Toro wooden, I was merely stating the fact that it was missing nearly all the factors that in my mind make a wooden coaster great. In my mind a wooden coaster is defined by it feeling out of control, rough, and causing the rider to feel like something is wrong on at least one instance during the ride. El Toro does not include any of those factors, and that is why it is nowhere near my top wooden coaster list.
Boulder Dash was the only good roller coaster.

Why did you say wow to me? All I did was post something how the track was made. I agree with slos though. I know it's made out of wood but the wood is glued together, bonded, and milled.

This http://cache.rcdb.com/pictures/picmax/p13856.jpg vs.
http://rcdb.com/3231.htm?p=15485

They are WAY different if you ask me. I put pre-fab's and wooden roller coasters in two very different categories. Just my opinion.

I thought I was on your side, but seems you too are confused.

You can say traditional vs. modern, but you can't say it's not wooden. That makes no sense...the track is made of wood just as other wooden rides, and there are no construction requirements for ride category. Common sense.

I still don't look at pre-fab's as a wooden coaster. The materials used for both of them are different and there created differently.

They're both wood! You yourself put up the patent. Did they ever mention anything other than wood, aside from the top layer of steel? Not really...

They're not called wooden feeling coasters. You have every right to say they don't feel like traditional wood coasters, but you can't say they're not wooden.

I know there both wood and they mentioned other things then just wood too. Like the patent said... The track pieces were glued, bonded, and milled. "Regular woodies" are just several pieces of wood laminated(no, not glued or bonded) on top of each other. Depends how you look at it.

You're silly.

How do traditional woodies keep the layers of wood together? I assume they use bolts made of some kind of metal. Does that make the ride not wooden? No? Then why should glue or some bonding technique?

You're really not making sense, and IMO digging yourself into a hole.

Yeah, with that logic, this isn't a steel coaster because of the catwalks:

about 24 hours left to vote in this round! [:D]

Were talking about wooden/prefab tracks. Not catwalks on a galaxi coaster.

Yeah, what does a catwalk have to do with anything?

A vekoma looper is also missing all the factors in my mind that make a steel coaster great. (smoothness, speed, vertical G's).
Would you consider them not steel coasters?

Win. All arguments beyond this point are invalid.

Phoenix still has more and better airtime due to it's buzzbars and lack of seatbelts.... also, let's not forget those magical things called laterals....
Boulder Dash was the only good roller coaster.
