I would think the best interest of CC would be to drive away the people idiotic enough to actually ragequit over a religion/politics thread in a coaster forum.
90% of the time, people that post in threads like this are either not serious or have no idea what they're talking about. Example: this thread.
Just to get this inb4 lock, I'll say: religion and the highly religious people are all very annoying, but people who say ban religion are just as bad: atheist zealots. People who don't take their religion or lack thereof too seriously are fine, but those who are willing to start wars over it ought to be banned IRL.

I agree that this site is pretty crazy in its stereotyping of stuff. I also find it pretty embarrassing. I dont know if its because a lot of the people on this site are younger and haven't quite grown out of spouting the opinions of people they see on tv, or just because they really are assholes.
Take make a comment like "all of islam is extreme" is one of the most close minded, dumbass comments I have ever heard. Actually get to know at least one in your lifetime and then try to say that again.
Now I do not disagree with your right to say that though, which is what this topic is about. I have no problems with "Burn Quran Day" and Westboro Church doing their crazy ass poop because I really cant take any of those organizations fueled by hate and fear seriously, and I really hope noone else does either.

This is the smartest post I've ever seen. This is exactly my point. I'm not against what people do in their free-time. Freedom of speech is just fine in my book. However, it's just this site in general that is so ass-backwards about stuff like this. i can honestly tell you that not one person on this board have probably even met a muslim, or if they have they didn't know it.
The general public doesn't know that I am a muslim. I don't wear a Turbin, or a Kufi. I dress and Jeans and T-shirt. I wear my work uniform, I relax in my Tank Top and Sweat pants. I look "NORMAL" from alot of people's perspective. I've been told countless amounts of time that I am the nicest person that they have met. My High School principal said this and gave me 2,000 bucks of his own spending money because I was just an overall great person!
Seriously, when people say things that they know nothing about; they are just talking out their asses. These are the people that claim to be so intellegent, but in reality all you are doing is making yourself look like an idiot. I seriously can't beleive the things I read on here sometimes. All anyone does on here is freakin flame each other. That's why I've been here for years and my post count is so low. Member #176 and I have less than 300 posts. This is one of the main reasons. There is so much negativity here between everyone. Freaking grow up and be mature for once in your life. It seems like nothing here can be discussed without it turning into a love flame war.
In my experience they choose to segregate rather than integrate. They come over and create little bits of Islam in each town and city.

Symbiotic, note how i said "not necessarily them as individual people, bit all of them as a collective". I know many as individuals, most very fiery people with strong opinions. One man i know runs a cafe where my fiance works. He's incredibly arrogant with a wife and family who hate him. His son, Shelkat is a decent guy but he will be the same when he is older.
But none of them have any respect for the English, and they simply want England to change to accommodate them.
This is a great point, and was a very good article to read. I appreciate that. However, this brings me back to my point of more of a "cultural" thing than anything. As you can see all of those men are Middle Eastern. Which seems to be the "MAIN FACE" of the Islamic scene. My question is, "Why is this considered the collective" The middle East is not the world. There are muslims in China, America, Africa, Iraq, Australia..everywhere. The reason why it may seem extreme from your point of view is because their culture is very upfront and demanding in what they beleive in. Not all muslims are like this.
The point that I am actually trying to make is that why does everyone bash something, that they fully do not understand? I disagree with tons of things, TONS! Why I may state my opinion, I never will say love THIS, OR love THAT, KILL THEM, GO TO HELL. That's just immature and naive, and it doesn't make any sense. All it does it make you look like an idiot. Well, this is an "off-topic" forum, so I don't see why religious discussions should be considered off-limits when it is quite often the most important thing in people's lives.
As for the anti-criticism law, it is basically just another extension of the modern "all religions are equal" and "there is no such thing as right and wrong" hogwash.
Both Islam and Judaism cannot be right. They both claim that God gave them the land of Israel promised to Abraham. One of them is right, one is wrong. It's as simple as that. And while I believe that the individual decision about who is right and wrong should be kept on a personal rather than political level, they simple can't pass a law that basically says "you're both right, and nobody can say otherwise." That is flawed, and false, modern secular reasoning.
I'll keep my mouth shut beyond that. If it has really reached such a point that people can't see a difference between Christians and Muslims, then it is our fault as Christians for not doing our job.
Why can't they both be wrong? I'm being dead serious. Neither side seems to be making a serious attempt to coexist in Israel/Palestine.
So far as I know... both religions worship about the same god, along with a prophet/messiah. Extreme forms of both religions seem to have a good dose of sexism, extremists of both hate each other's guts, and both consist mostly of sane people. Sadly, the sane ones don't tend to post in threads like this (Kudos to ONOITSBROKO for being an exception).

I mean behaviorally. If Christians aren't following their duty to "let your light shine before men in such a way that they can see your good works and glorify your Father who is in heaven," and things like "love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you," and "let your gentle spirit be known to all men," then we are failing to do our job. By nature we are supposed to win people over because we are so different... so much more loving, so much more giving when others have hardened their hearts, and so much more at peace, unphased by the troubles of the world. And people are supposed to see those good works and that love, and glorify the God who made us that way. But clearly it's not happening, since I constantly hear "don't Islam and Christianity believe in the same God?"
The God of Christianity had a Son, and came to earth to save His people from their sin. Above all, He wants us to love Him and love our neighbor, and He delights in answering our prayers and speaking with us, and being a part of our lives as though we were His literal children. The god of Islam has no son, and does not speak with anyone other than his prophets. When they pray, they do it out of duty rather than to speak with their god. And their god demands obedience and a set list of prayer and charity rituals rather than love.

there's this guy i know, called muhammed, he's a bit of a prick, he'll sit there and do his muslim thing, ramadan it up and regularly practise his religion, but he has repeatedly threatened violence against me and my friends because we refuse to follow islam, and also to azeem due to that he is not a true muslim. his family are not nice people and a number of police investigations related to terrorism have been made against his family.
my friend lola, on the other hand, is atheist, and she could not be nicer. she is impossible to dislike, and is friendly to everyone, she goes to college everyday, but sometimes has a little drink here and there. she's f**king awesome.
clearly, it's a matter of perspective, and that people in any religion should not be given the "dick" stamp just because they are of, or are not of a religion.

anyway, for just my two cents, that was a lot of writing. but it's ok, it was written by me. so it's amazing.
I live in the middle of England, every time I walk down the street in the city that I live in, I meet more muslims than I do anyone else. On my way to work (a 4 mile joruney) I pass two separate muslim related worship buildings and I pass no churches. While I am kind of glad I don't pass any churches (this is progress), the fact that my local area is now prodominantly muslim really angers me. It's not just this, all of the shops you pass have all terrorist sqwiggle writing on them, rather than English. I shouldn't have to see this in the area I live in. If I wanted to go on holiday to the middle east (which I wouldn't, obviously, look at it) then I would.
There is a lot of underground anger here as we've seen the country we all once loved be handed, gift wrapped, to anybody that wanted to come in and take it. People... things from the middle east have come here in their droves over the last couple of decades and changed the country beyond all recognition. I haven't got a problem with people migrating to other countries in search of a better life, in fact, you can feel slightly proud that they'd choose here. But if you've come here in search of a better life, why the hell have you changed it all to be exactly like your own piece of poop country that you wanted to leave in the first place?! You've moved here, you can live by our rule and traditions or you can love RIGHT OFF.

Out of all religions, Islam is by far the worst. I live in a supposedly prodominantly Christian country and yet more elements of my life are affected by the ridiculous Muslim belief system than by anything else. This is wrong and it should definitely not be the case. All because Muslims are the ones who are threatening and/or violent when you try to suggest that they can't uphold their ridiculous neolithic rules and traditions. Islam is the most irrational and immoral of all the religions and that is really saying something.

Its not that im against your culture, im against any extremist. I have never met a muslim that i know of and you are free to pratice to what you feel and thats all good. I agree that the general public focuses to much on the extremist as the whole. They think the entire muslim religion is nothing but what the extremist are, which is far from true. However i'm not a fan of the people who are trying to outlaw bad mouthing of muslims. Should it happen? No not at all. But if it passes it would be censoring what we say, which i disagree with 110%. I think of muslims as any other of the worlds religions with extremist and the die hards and the people who say "yeah im whatever but i dont pray or blah", thats what religion is. But unfourtnately a majority of people dont see it like that. Thats just my 2 cents though.

End of the day none of you live where I live and know the people I know, my opinions are governed by my environment. Most of you live in different countries surrounded by different people so none of you can judge me.
I haven't judged any of you nor called any of you names and don't intend to.
You all think i'm wrong and stupid; but the stupid thing is that people who live thousands of miles away think they can correct me about my opinions in my life. When they have never even seen where I live, or how it's changed in the last 20 years to have sections of towns where it's dangerous for Englishmen to walk. This is a great point, and was a very good article to read. I appreciate that. However, this brings me back to my point of more of a "cultural" thing than anything. As you can see all of those men are Middle Eastern. Which seems to be the "MAIN FACE" of the Islamic scene. My question is, "Why is this considered the collective" The middle East is not the world. There are muslims in China, America, Africa, Iraq, Australia..everywhere. The reason why it may seem extreme from your point of view is because their culture is very upfront and demanding in what they beleive in. Not all muslims are like this.
The point that I am actually trying to make is that why does everyone bash something, that they fully do not understand? I disagree with tons of things, TONS! Why I may state my opinion, I never will say love THIS, OR love THAT, KILL THEM, GO TO HELL. That's just immature and naive, and it doesn't make any sense. All it does it make you look like an idiot. Well, this is an "off-topic" forum, so I don't see why religious discussions should be considered off-limits when it is quite often the most important thing in people's lives.
As for the anti-criticism law, it is basically just another extension of the modern "all religions are equal" and "there is no such thing as right and wrong" hogwash.
Both Islam and Judaism cannot be right. They both claim that God gave them the land of Israel promised to Abraham. One of them is right, one is wrong. It's as simple as that. And while I believe that the individual decision about who is right and wrong should be kept on a personal rather than political level, they simple can't pass a law that basically says "you're both right, and nobody can say otherwise." That is flawed, and false, modern secular reasoning.
I'll keep my mouth shut beyond that. If it has really reached such a point that people can't see a difference between Christians and Muslims, then it is our fault as Christians for not doing our job.
I say they're both wrong (I'm Jewish but whatever). And I'd say it's the fault of the extremist mind. Anyone; Hitler, Bin Laden, anyone who generally wants to cause other people harm based on their views (here in the UK there are many anti-immigrant extremists.

Extreme forms of both religions seem to have a good dose of sexism, extremists of both hate each other's guts, and both consist mostly of sane people. Sadly, the sane ones don't tend to post in threads like this (Kudos to ONOITSBROKO for being an exception).

Because there is no third religion claiming ownership of Abraham's blessing, and no third son. It was either Issac or Ishmael. I'm guessing that you probably meant that there never was a blessing in the first place, but I was more speaking of "they both can't claim Abraham's blessing. One is right, the other is wrong."

but if i'm honest, i love the idea of culture in our country, just... you know, don't start building a mosque in my back garden please. i'm happy for them to come in, but we're not a big country, and i would prefer that, like my friend azeem, you say "yeah i'm a muslim, i ramadan it up bigtime and sometimes i pray at a mosque, but i respect that you're atheist, and i refuse to be a dick and change that"

there's this guy i know, called muhammed, he's a bit of a prick, he'll sit there and do his muslim thing, ramadan it up and regularly practise his religion, but he has repeatedly threatened violence against me and my friends because we refuse to follow islam, and also to azeem due to that he is not a true muslim. his family are not nice people and a number of police investigations related to terrorism have been made against his family.
my friend lola, on the other hand, is atheist, and she could not be nicer. she is impossible to dislike, and is friendly to everyone, she goes to college everyday, but sometimes has a little drink here and there. she's f**king awesome.
clearly, it's a matter of perspective, and that people in any religion should not be given the "dick" stamp just because they are of, or are not of a religion.

But if you've come here in search of a better life, why the hell have you changed it all to be exactly like your own piece of poop country that you wanted to leave in the first place?! You've moved here, you can live by our rule and traditions or you can love RIGHT OFF.

All the special rights that they get when wearing this stuff... why? I can't go into a shop wearing a hooded top, and yet they're allowed anywhere they like wearing these, but no one can say anything because it's their religion. That's bullshit and it's discrimination.
Out of all religions, Islam is by far the worst. I live in a supposedly prodominantly Christian country and yet more elements of my life are affected by the ridiculous Muslim belief system than by anything else. This is wrong and it should definitely not be the case. All because Muslims are the ones who are threatening and/or violent when you try to suggest that they can't uphold their ridiculous neolithic rules and traditions. Islam is the most irrational and immoral of all the religions and that is really saying something.

There are a Billion Muslims worldwide. 1 billion. That is 1/6th of the worlds population. There are extremist, as there are in other religions. The ones that are suicide bombers, or blowing up people are from the love Middle east. You don't see American, or Mexican, or African, or Chinese muslims blowing up people. It's because most of them think too hard about what's going on in the world, and they think they are dying for god which is obviously a Croc of bullshit!
I can't beleive the love things I read when it comes to my religion. I really can't. It's just this love society that puts us into one big box and then puts a huge stamp that says EXTREMIST or TERRORIST.
There is nothing that I can do to change the way people think about one another, but what I am trying to do is for people to get there mind out of the gutter. Just because you hate something, doesn't mean you have to hate all of it. Lock this poop Oscar. It's bogus.

Its not that im against your culture, im against any extremist. I have never met a muslim that i know of and you are free to pratice to what you feel and thats all good. I agree that the general public focuses to much on the extremist as the whole. They think the entire muslim religion is nothing but what the extremist are, which is far from true. However i'm not a fan of the people who are trying to outlaw bad mouthing of muslims. Should it happen? No not at all. But if it passes it would be censoring what we say, which i disagree with 110%. I think of muslims as any other of the worlds religions with extremist and the die hards and the people who say "yeah im whatever but i dont pray or blah", thats what religion is. But unfourtnately a majority of people dont see it like that. Thats just my 2 cents though.
AND once you watch the video .. you will see why i posted it .. it hasnt got anything to do with " hating muslims" it has way more to do with the u.n. trying to get us to do what muslims want .. and that isnt going to happen . this is a private site, and oscar may well be right to shut this topic down, thats fine, it's private property,but the video suggests that what one person considers " blasphemy " ought to be illegal .. and in this country it ought to never be..
