How's everything going for you? Great I hope.
Here's how I make those skid brakes.
First, I found out that you can hide those squeeze brakes by putting a check mark in a box that says "hide brakes". First double click on the brake segment and then find that box and put a check mark in it. You want to get rid of those squeeze brakes. Besides they look ugly. Haaaa! Haaa! Just kidding.
OK after that it's simple. First you have to lay down some "free nodes". You'll find them in one of those drop down menus at the top of your screen. Line them up in the center of the track in two rows because skid brakes have two pads the train skids on. Now, simply connect the free nodes with the small wooden beam. After that double click on those little wooden beams and color them black because most of the time skid brakes look black from all the grease and dirt they collect. Or charcol color would do fine also. To get the skid brakes to go around curves you have to lay down a lot of free nodes so the little wooden beams look like they are curved (but really they aren't) but the shorter they are the more they looked curved when you connect them together.
Hope that helps you. By the way, don't use the flat plank or beam. You want to use the small squared beam that has the same dimensions on each side.
Here's a little trick I do when I'm laying down a bunch of free nodes. First I go over to the corner of the work area and lay down 50 or more free nodes. Then I highlight them with the mouse (they turn white) like they are lit up. Then you can move them to the corner and you'll see they all come together into one lump and look like just one free node. But there's more than one, all 50 or 100 or as many as you laid down. Now if you highlight that clump of free nodes and take it to your building site it will make your work easier. Here's how to release one free node at a time from the clump. Just click on the clump with your mouse and you'll see one free node light up. Move it away from the clump with your arrow keys and put it into position where you want it. Click the clump again to remove another free node. They will remove only one at a time.
also here's another tip. If you want to highlight more than one wooden beam or steel pipe, hold down the Ctrl key while you left click on each beam. All will remain highlighted and you can color all of them with one click or move all of them by moving your mouse.
Hope that helps you.
Take care.
