Because Hyyyper is a terrible, terrible judge. I'd be doing a disservice to those participating if this wasn't brought to your attention.

We're going to run this contest as we deem as best. If you don't like it, then move on. All you have done is post negativity and not an ounce of suggestive help. Freddie, quit posting here if you don't have anything productive for this site. I'm tired of you always putting down hyyyper and the actions we do here.

No offense, if you deem hyyyper running this contest as best then you are blind. Well actually he does a good job with the templates but can't judge for poop

If someone doesn't like how the contest is being ran, they don't have to participate.

Seriously, the one big thing this site USED to have going for it was the big NL tournament. However, over the last few years the poor judging has reduced the number of quality entries AND participants. The fact is people love contests and they inspire them to build, but they don't want to spend a TON of time on a ride only for it to be judged by someone who just SHOULD NOT be judging and doesn't have a clue what they are talking about. It's a big waste of time. If you don't realize this or agree with me than I'm sorry, you must honestly not have a functioning brain in your head! The high level of stupidity that has taken over these boards is what has turned me off and many others from the site.

This site still has the NL activity going though- it's a shame that the quality has gone to poop however.

So don't join. This tournament is for fun. If you are that concerned about the ratings part, don't join and stop wining.

I think his (valid) point is the tournament isn't quite as much fun if you spend countless hours on a design so you can compete, but get screwed in the rating because someone doesn't have enough knowledge to judge fairly. 4 rides X say 60 hours per ride = 240 hours, or 10 days of your time over 2 months. Who wants to feel jipped when they spend that much time on something?

Exactly. The tournament ISN'T fun at all. Obviously you are just ignorant by looking at all of your posts.

Sigh, you all need to calm down about the judging issue. I'm sure Oscar has a few plans in mind to improve the contest for next year.
Oh, were you expecting something here?

(Yet again raising my hand as potential judge, and also as potential future tournament host if hyyyper wants a break.)

Probably my biggest positive legacy on this site is my contest rates. I've only gotten 4 complaints, one from ragan and dcs221 in the 2006 NLT, one from hyyyper in the Tight-Fit, and one from muella in Jazzland, out of the seven contests and 13 different template-judgings that I've run. And if I'm not mistaken, the last two I ran, "Build a Better B&M" and "Coaster War," had 0 complaints each.

If it's an unbiased judge you're looking for, who thoroughly explains why he's taking points off and what he thinks could be done better, I think I should be seriously considered.

Jakizle's Put Me On The Map was pretty sweet. Still working on my entry for that one.

Just so everyone knows, the staff members are talking about who will be judging this thing. You'll all know who judged the contest at its closer.

I think we should know who the judge is.. and that will have an impact on who does and does not sign up for the tournament. I mean personally, for the last few years, whoever the judge is for the tournament will ultimately declare my level of interest in entering the contest in the first place. No lie.

You should be joining the tournament to have fun building tracks and being challenged by the templates. If you care so much about who is judging, then you indeed shouldn't join because you will only be dissapointed.

^I hate to agree with Jake here, but in a building situation where you put a lot of effort into a coaster, and the only rate you're likely to get at all is the contest rate, it is a huge slap in the face to receive a short un-detailed rating that doesn't make sense to you. And after a couple of the contest rates I got in prior NLTs, my reaction was something along the lines of "What? Did he even ride the coaster? He missed the point!" And I'm sure just about everyone here felt the same way. When that happens, nobody wants to participate. Yes, we do do the contests to just build coasters in a challenging scenario, but we also do it because it is our only chance to truly compete against others, and see how our coasters stack up in the grand scheme of things. And when our ratings don't make sense to us, we feel cheated.

I'm just saying...

Guys, this is like the 5th time someone has said the same thing as me. I appreciate some of you being honest, but I think hyyyper just doesn't understand [stoning]
