> First car.

> Subaru Impreza.

The love?

I'd have came in my pants if my first car had been an Impreza. I had to settle for what I was given, a car I inherited from my Grandad when he died. On my second car now and I basically had to just buy the same car again, only newer and in a nicer colour, because of a lack of funds.

An Impreza? For your first car? Don't kill yourself, kid.

I would avoid all Chrysler, Hummer, Dodge, Hyundai, Kia, Mitsubishi, and Toyota products along with Chevy cars.

I would recommend in this order:

1. Ford
2. Mazda
3. Honda
4. Nissan
5. Chevy Trucks

Google the make and model of your car and find out what the common problems are with them, check the car you intend to buy for those problems. I bought an 03 Ford Escape in 2007 after some women totaled my F250, bought it with 142,530 on the clock, presently pushing close to 300,000 in which I will completely overhaul the truck because its cheaper.

I've Had four trucks and one car in the past three years, a 97 dodge ram 1500, 97 ford 15, 93 gmc serria, 2003 Chevy silverado, and a 93 subaru outback. my dodge crapped out in three months and I had to re-build the rear axle and a new steering rods. It sucked. My ford broke in two months. I had would have had to geta new trans and 4x4. My Gm, Chevy, and subaru were the best vehicles i've had. my gmc had had over 300,000 miles and ran fine. My subaru was my moms old car and it lasted a long time. My chevy has been the best so far. My family has all had chevy and they have worked very well But that is just us. I suggest anything Chevy, gmc, or subaru IMO.

I was lucky enough to have my parents buy me my first car (so, it's not really mine as in I have to share it with my sister, and my father until recently). It's a 2007 Honda Civic, and it's the best thing ever. My family is all honda as far as our cars go, and we love all of them. If I were to recommend a first car for 2 grand, I'd say check out 90s civics or accords. I know my dad sold his 97 civic (which was in near perfect condition) for $3500, so I'm guessing you could get a slightly older one in slightly worse condition for less.

American cares are poop. Buy a Subaru. I have a 94 Legacy which was my first and my 04 WRX wagon. I will never buy anything else.

My experience at an auto parts factory tells me it was the transmission primarily that did this. Did I guess right?

Actually, that wasn't part of the problems. It did go bad at around 170,000 miles, but I never fixed it before I sold the whole damned car for $250. Here is my list of all the unscheduled maintenance headaches that put me almost $5,000 in debt between 2003 and 2007.
-Cooling Fan ($600)
-Head Gasket ($1200)
-Radiator Leak ($400)
-Catalytic Converter ($250)
-Tire Blowout ($100)
-Cracked Cylinder Head ($2000)
-Brakes (never fixed)
-Transmission (never fixed)

And just to add to what I said earlier, my current car is a Toyota Rav4. It's nowhere near as comfortable as the Dodge was, but I've now had it for three years (185,000 miles now) and I have yet to spend a dime on unscheduled maintenance. Not a single thing has broken.

I find this quite appropriate for this thread:

Anyway, I drive a 1999 Renault Twingo, and it's the perfect car for a beginner driver, like me.
