I have a '98 Ford Explorer 4DR XL. Vehicle shown below.

Image

It has about 130,xxx miles on it. I recently had a Ford Tech work on it. This repair is going to cost me about $2,400 (US) give or take a bit. (Front end work, 4 wheel alignment, brakes, E-Brake repair.) I have about another $2,500 is repairs that were noted on during this report. Most of us can realize that is going to be about $5,000 total. The extra repairs consist of passenger window (front right) needs a new regulator, the rear wiper needs to be re-bracketed to the tailgate, something with the Power Steering needs to be fixed, and some senor needs to be serviced because its melting or something like that (check engine light). That said, the truck in its present condition is worth about $3,750 to $4,250. Thus the repairs would be more then the truck is worth.

My delima is, I already paid to have the first bit of work done to it, so I cant get that cash back. Should I have this truck which is very reliable fixed, or should I buy a newer one? Keep in mind, I have no interest in getting a car. If I do end up buying something else it will be a Ford SUV or Truck.

all but the clutch i've done myself, alot of what you are paying for is labor, so i dont know

I would repair it. I don't know how much your planning to spend on a new truck, but won't be in prime condition and you'll be back at the garage to have the new truck's problems fixed.
So unless you're planning to go all-out on a new truck, just repair this one.

Can't you buy stuff like Ferarris for $5000 in America? [lol] It seems that way anyway, the cars are SO cheap in comparison to here. I was just thinking if that was the case, get yourself a nice 458 Italia; one of the best driving machines that money can buy atm.

Why would you want a Ferrari anyways? It's Italian.

I would go with a new car like an Escape or something.

Oh yeah, these are some nice cars. The US-car fan in me would be happy if he`d own a 1669 Corvette Stingray coupe with a 426 Hemi.

^ that might not work too well, though i cant say 100 percent that it hasnt been done . that motor is a chrysler motor, one that might show up in a road runner or superbee, or charger or coronet or a belvedere or even mashed into an old fury and on other chrysler products, but bolting it into a chevy would be a headache . the corvette had a supercharged general motors ( chevy) 427 .

Thats pretty much what my mother said to me. I think thats the way to go now to. Its a nice idea to buy a band new car but since I cant afford it, and since my current car is working fine, I will go with the repairs.

Lancer Evo X in England = ?????????30,000.

Lancer Evo X in the USA = $30,000.

1 U.S. dollar = 0.62 British pounds

$30,000 = ?????????18,616.08

...

I'd say this is fair.

No Oscar. (Not saying that truck is not American, but the company, Toyota, is not.) I will buy an American SUV or Truck made by the Ford Motor Company. Ford might not make the best stuff out there, but when the US auto industry fell on its ass, they didnt cry to the government for any money.

Also, if I ever get an exotic car it will be something from Germany. Screw Ferrari.
