Sorry to dig up this thread. Anyways here is an updated list of my favorite bands now that some recent "events" have happened.
1. White Stripes - They recently broke up, I'm still very bummed about this since they were supposedly making another album and Jack's side projects like the Dead Weather and The Raconteurs just aren't the same quality wise to me). Still my all time favorite, but a lack of "new stuff" may drop them down as I get older.
2. Foo Fighters - Just because. Always liked them even as I was younger. Kind of "grew up" with them like the White Stripes.
3. Gorillaz - Their new experimental album (The Fall) worries me since it's a bit more techno focused than I'd like, but then again if they managed to make me like a song that sounds like an angry pedophile dentist they've succeeded at something (Joplin Spider). Wish they'd go back to the style of Demon Days though since the intro track on the new album despite being experimental has a bass line that sounds like chili farts (Phoner to Arizona). Unfortunately "the band" if you include Blur in the timeline has been around roughly 20 years, and most of that 20 years has been at the top (at least in the UK) so I don't see the guy being able to put out new stuff much longer. Then again he isn't one of the self destructive cocaine addict retards that screams his face off daily so that helps.
4. Band of Horses - I discovered a track with extremely heavy Christian overtones which is always a gigantic tragedy on par with finding out the woman you've been oogling while wearing beer googles from a distance is a dude. So we'll see what happens with them. If they wind up Christian I won't buy their stuff because I don't want to be indirectly funding genocide or encouraging youth suicide in the USA. I try to avoid having that blood on my hands.
5. Don't really have a 5th favorite, so I'll call it a smattering of 1 hit wonders. Been getting into music more lately though since it helps distract me during my endless reading sprees.

I suppose my taste has changed a lot since this thread started, so I'll put my top 5 here.
1.Destruction
I suppose German thrash isn't for all of us. However this is probably the best of the 3 major German thrash bands and it is pretty brutal.
2.Primus
Wacky and it's extremely musical prog/funk metal/rock. It is also pretty good rhythmically.
3.Exodus
Classic thrash. Fast, fun, furious, and more entertaining than Metallica.
4.Vektor
Prog/Black/Death/Thrash combo. Really awesome.
5.Testament
Better than 'Tallica and also fast and thrashy with really good vocals.
hehe Primus I don't mind. I feel like Les Claypool just releases songs for the hell of it though sometimes because you really have to wade through lots of garbage to find the brilliant ones.
I really do not have a "favorites" list, but, here is what I have been listening to recently:
U2
Dead Air Broadcast (local band, I went to high school with all 3 members)
Pink Floyd
RUSH
STYX
Led Zeppelin
Ramones
Offspring
Miles Davis
Dave Brubeck quartet (saw them live a few years ago, it was a lot of fun)
John Coltrane
Brian Setzer Orchestra
Dropkick Murphys
Flogging Molly
A7X
Blink-182 (dude ranch and cheshire cat, plus, they were a lot of fun to see live (pre "enema of the state.) )
Yes
Edgar Winter Group
Rolling Stones
chicken bowl..
please dont piss off this here music snob by putting "rush " in the same list as pixies.. please.. i'm bitter enough lol .. [lol][lol][lol]
Theyre totally different, I agree, but I appreciate the tightness of Rush, it is amazing. They play very intricate stuff. I saw Pixies in October for the second time. Theyre the best!
Yea! SpaceMountainFan619 finally mentioned Edgar Winter Group ... Frankenstein and Free Ride are my favorite
I also like Lady Gaga. She's a one woman female band. Poker Face.
My favorite Rap ... "Imma Be" by the Black Eyed Peas.... Imma be doin' my thang ... etc.
Before my old computer crashed I had a ski themed B&M Invert I made with RCT3 and called it "warren Miller's Free Ride" I had speakers around the whole mountain blasting "Free Ride." I love that song. I saw Edgar Winter Group live about 18 years ago, it was a lot of fun.
