Which OS are you?

I installed both Win XP and Win 7 on the same hard drive and now I have a choice between the two systems when I boot my computer. I keep XP because some of my programs don't work on Win 7. And some work better on Win 7. I originally bought a PC with Windows because more programs were written for Windows. I don't buy anti-virus programs. I just reinstall my operating system and they're gone. I like working on my PC, installing new hard drives and video cards. It's like working on an old car, changing your own oil and filter, saving money. The picture of the bicycle and motorcycle just about says it all. Not that the MAC is slow but with a Windows PC you can tear it down without the help of a computer expert and rebuild it to go faster. It's sort of like a hot rod. If you like getting your hands dirty, you'll love a Windows PC. By the way, the new PCI-Express video cards are awesome! I get 100 frames per second with NL most of the time. And believe me, 100 fps beats 30 fps. You can see the difference.

I never got viruses. And even if I did,, I had deep freeze installed on mine. What did was I would create a partition in my hard drive. One part would be all my files and the other would be the program files (obviously haha). But what made it awesome was that deep freeze would "freeze" the program files so I couldn't edit them unless I unfroze it (which you could do be restarting after you switch it). So if I'd ever get a virus, all I would have to do was restart. All I need for my desktop now is a good graphics card and I want more ram (only have 4 gigs.)

XP/Android. Building a brand new computer right now, and XP is going on it.

I'm a big Mac fan, personally. I mostly enjoy the UI, some of the unique features of Mac OSX (Dashboard, Expose, and Spaces), and the integration of all of Apple's software better than Microsoft. With that said, I'm far from anti-Microsoft. I run a Win7 VM and an XP VM (along with Ubuntu, just because I could). All have their own uses (except Ubuntu - still haven't found a specific use for that one...), and I love my setup. A lot. The reason I switched to Mac? I had an XP machine for 8 years or something, and it was really starting to piss me off (be it a few viruses, maybe just old age) so I got rid of that and convince my parents to get me an iMac for a Christmas/Birthday present in '09. I'm sure that part of the reason I'm now so in love with my Mac was the drastic difference I experienced when I left my Windows machine - the Mac's processing speed was almost literally 12 times that of my old PC, the screen resolution more than quadrupled, 3 times the RAM, and 30 times the Hard Drive space - but even so, it's been perfect for me, and that's all I care about, really.

macs work very well for film and music editing .

I've been thinking about getting a MAC just to see the difference. Although we like to joke about Apple, I'm sure MAC's are good as Jayman pointed out.

By the way, Backroadbridge, you need a 64 bit OS in order to recognize more than 4 Gigs of RAM. I didn't know if you knew that. I just found that out myself recently. Windows 7 comes with both a 32 bit and 64 bit OS. I have 8 Gigs of RAM. My rig is smokin'.

macs have better battery life
and have better everything and dont have to deal with virus and bullshit that most windows users have to deal with
so i am going to go with mac
im getting my 13in mac book pro next week

Yeah I know. I'm running 64 bit on it. idk i'd probably only need 6 gigs to be honest. my computer never breaks 3 gigs of usage. and honestly macs are built well, I will admit that. But I can get a windows computer for cheaper then most macs and they work just as well. I don't know, thats just my opinion.

^Yeah I have to agree. I love Mac's and think they are well built, functioning machines. But why not get a PC thats 2 times as powerful and half the price??

^ exactly why I could never justify paying almost $2,000 for a Mac when I bought a Sony vaio laptop for less then 1,000 and it's twice as good. It's also makes a big difference when your the one paying for it haha. But this is all opinion.

As much poop talking as I do about MACs I have to say, for personal music studios, Apple and Mac do offer the best hardware and software available on the market. I have been dreaming for this set-up for 10 years now......

Oh it has the virus. The virus just isn't designed to run on a such a shitty portion of the market share.

It's about the same, VST instruments are much easier to acquire on a PC but due to most macs having firewire from factory, the support for hardware is increased a bit.
I use Windows for production but when I move into graphic design in the next 5 years, I will probably also swap production onto Mac (logic pro has some sweet ass effects).

I don't produce music ATM, but, it is something I am really interested in. I am trying to find the most affordable quality hardware and software. I really want something that has MIDI inputs so I can hook up my keyboard to it.
