yep what has this world come to. Although im happy that this gives hope to a reduction or maybe a complete lack of trims.

Last two times I rode it the trims were off and it was amazing. Top 15.

I think if they keep a lot of the track geometry (at least the good aspects) and smooth it out some with this topper track, it'll be a really good ride. The layout is pretty sweet and original, it just needs some fixing up and an increase in speed to make sure it sees its potential. It would be awesome if they could restore the original drop too, but I doubt they're interested in doing that.

The good thing is the drop as is still provides some of the most wicked ejector air in the back seat.

Cyclone is a nice ride, if not a little rough. I wounder how Rattler is running with its topper track over at SFFT.

hmm, im visiting SFNE sometime in the beginning of june, ill have to take some pictures ^.^

Cyclone was definately a top 15 ride in the ptc seat this year. It wasnt even barely rough, and where it was it wasnt painfull in any way.

Cyclone is in my top 5. Great ride and not rough at all.

Guys, look at the position Six Flags is taking now. Instead of letting their rides rot until they fall, or just razing them with years of life left like they historically have. The new management has put considerable effort into revitalizing their legendary and iconic coasters. I think it would have been more of their style to tear down the Giant and put a SLC in (they did it to La Rhonde) then to go through this restoration effort. Especially considering they literally blew up Freefall. So maybe try to have a little faith this time. I'm eager to see what they are going to do, especially if they start passing out much needed attention to previously starved parks. Hopefully they turn their record around because everyone in the park business is looking shadier and shadier.

They've done an amazing job taking care of the American Eagle.... with all the retrackings and everything.

i rode the eagle in 1990
i was 11 when it opened and i was in california, but i would scour the newspaper archives and magazines at the library for ANYTHING about rollercoasters. .. to me it was a huge deal, it was taller than collossus .. and collossus was my favorite thing in the world .
8 years later i got stationed at great lakes and went to military night and RUSHED to the eagle .
you cant imagine how stoked i was to be riding one of the rollercoasters i had only seen pictures of in books and magazine archives ( there was no internet) i sat there excited as it went over that first drop .
it was AWESOME i was thinking " oh my GOD i'm riding the american eagle YES!!!!!!!" . and then suddenly it it hit a long flat spot just started going around in a circle , and .. then .. it bounced around a little and went around a bank turn ( which was pretty cool ) but it ALMOST was a dissapointment .. that was 21 years ago .

Your expectations were way too high, that's what happened with me and Voyage. It was nowhere near what I expected.

Just rode cyclone today with the new topper track and was very very VERY impressed by how smooth it was. They retracked all of the second high up turnaround leading up to and through the huge valley here

It was gci smooth. Not TOO smooth but perfect and was ALOT faster on the huge valley. But the drop INTO the valley was no longer oddly shaped there was no airtime anymore, even in the back there was only very light floater, but coming out of the valley there were INSANE amounts of air in the front because of the extra speed from the topper track and therefore more speed going into (my personal favorite part of the ride) the drop into the structure next to the lift. The ride was overall improved more than it was worsened by the lack of air on that one drop into the huge valley.

this sounds great. I'll be riding this in June. It'll be my first topper track ride, and I'm looking forward to seeing how it rides.

Yeah, i agree with you, I thought the topper track on Rattler felt just like a GCI. Super smooth, but still has that great wooden coaster "vibration" so to say.
