So, some of you might have read my suggestion in the discussion about premium benefits and why they're in place, but for those who haven't, here's the jist of it:

Charge members to upload their tracks. Something on the order of $1-$2. Alternatively, host a "Premium Exchange" where members pay to upload to and are more prominently featured on the homepage, and where (possibly) there is an additional points benefit for rating.

Both of these suggestions would likely increase the quality of the exchange, and prevent "unfinished" tracks from being uploaded. The premium exchange would give those members who really want feedback a place to have their tracks more prominently featured and have more incentives for people to rate.

One last thing, Premium members should retain free upload privileges via the first option, and receive a heavy discount on the premium exchange idea, because I know that having my track featured prominently on the homepage is important enough to me to pay for it, even above a yearly donation to the site.

Now, before the flaming ensues, I have absolutely no idea how difficult this would be to implement, but if I received word that work was started on something of this nature, I would seriously consider upgrading to a premium account. And by "seriously consider" I mean "I will".

My question to you is, which do you think is the better idea?

I do think that a premium exchange would be a reasonable idea. Charging per track to everybody, though, that would downright kill the whole site IMO. There are other NL sites that offer exchanges for free, so in order for anyone to stay here, we would have to be offering a far superior service. Back in the days when we still had tons of active members, this would have been fine. But now even the best tracks are only getting one or two rates, pretty much the same as other sites. So now a cost like that would just chase people away to other sites.

I just thought of a different idea that might work. Have Oscar create a CoasterCrazy channel on YouTube if it doesn't already exist. On this channel he can have different playlists for track videos, NL tutorials, theme park trips, and anything else that coaster enthusiasts would find interesting. The trick is for Oscar to gain YouTube partnership and/or be selected for Google AdSense. When Oscar gets the checks, he will take half, and the other half will be divided evenly amongst the people who submit content to the channel.

I believe the person submitting the content should get some recognition for their work. Many of us have our own YouTube channels, and it wouldn't exactly be right for another channel to upload the same videos and exclusively hoard the profits from them.

I think it should be left "as is".

Paying $1-$2 per track would just make things sort of a hassle, not to mention that unfortunately tracks would just not show up on the exchange.

Having a "premium only" exchange is just straight elitist. And what then? People pay extra so that people can rate their rides on a page with a picture? If the exchange was "premium only", then us non-premium'ers would just post a logo, throw in a MediaFire link, and ask people to rate in the topic below. I just think that would confuse things.

And the idea for both types of people paying just isn't right. First off, you lead new members into thinking that this site nickel-and-dime's you. Then, the premium members, after already paying, still have to pay. Sounds like a lose-lose.

All-in-all, it should be left as it is. It is perfect. Sauron's suggestion for a CoasterCrazy channel is actually really good, and I think that is the direction we should take. If we are completely in debt, then maybe we should resort to a pop-up ad when you first enter the site (but not on every page).

Maybe we can take a hint from farmville, and be able to buy points.

Also, maybe more benifits with points...... or possibly "premium points" that can only be bought, which can buy specially items, possibly t-shirts and keyrings?

Yeah, we should get more points rewards, like custom profile pages! But that's a suggestion for later, as this isn't a good time really. Though, if you have better rewards, "purchasing points" could be a way of getting a little extra cash!

you seem to misunderstand the concept....greatly

the premium exchange would still be free to downloaders, but it would get more "airtime" on the front page and be more publicised than other tracks. the uploader pays, not the downloader. it doesnt mean for premium members either, any member would be able to post a track for a fee, which should be the same for everybody, regardless of if they pay for premium or not, its not elietist, you are just being retarded and not reading. undermining the site by uploading another persons track on mediafire, or some other website is not only plagiarism, but will land you an instant ban. the regular exchange would still be up, and the same as it has been.

Well, if what you said is the case, then I'm all for it! :)

Charging to upload is not going to happen. However, to entice premium member subscriptions, I have been tinkering with the code trying to get a way for the latest 5 premium/VIP member tracks to display on the front page. So far I haven't had the luck. It would be above the current latest 5 tracks. Since being most tracks get picked off and downloaded from the home page, this would give premium / VIP members a chance to get more eyes to their tracks and downloads and ratings instead of falling throgh the cracks and off the first page within a couple hours or a day. This is an interesting topic. However, the idea of charging to upload doesn't work out for me. That is a bit extreme, for now.

Maybe I can even place the premium/vip member tracks right below the news getting you even more exposure. hmmm that certainly is interesting. I will have to find some time to work on this and see if I can do it.

Thanks for the ideas, keep them coming!

There should be more way's to pay for a Premium account, so it becomes easyer for people who are not from america to buy Premium. Because Paypal Sucks

Damn,grow up!
I posted that one vid for the lolz, and it seems like the only coasterporn on web(its even not a porn, just boobs).
And since CC is a "family friendly site" you can scrap that idea.I`m not addicted to porn, and if I want some,I just google for it.

What about using a system like Rapidshare. Then points would actually have a value, Then if you want to download more than 3 files, it costs you say 5-50 points for each coaster (could depend on the current rating or something). Oscar could sell points in bundles of like 100's or something, and then with that they could breach the download limit of 3 per day (could even be lowered to 1 per day with this system). And don't give out as many point refills. Remove the steal tool too (other wise i'd be pissed if someone stole 1000 points that cost me something like ?????????5). Maybe some more point store features could be added too, like could change your theme once, for 5000 points.

^Haz,
Decent idea. May kill the premium accounts pretty much. We'll all be able to get what premi's get now, but for a small price. Depends on the point structure itself, i.e., cost per items vs cost per CC purchase. And sure, why not call it: CoasterCash.

I would also add a point system that would reward you for leaving a good, detailed coaster rate. Maybe .25 points for leaving a 3 point rate(T/A/O) with a set number of words or characters. 4 approved ratings = 1 CC pt, som'tin ligh dat. An maybe minus points for leaving horrible rates.

If:

50 members buy
1000 CC pts a month
at $5 = $250
-5 pts for bad rates
+1 pts for 4 good rates

Free CD/DVD/Book or whatever to those purchasing 7,500-10,000 pts in a month?

I don't post here very often, but do read the comments regularly. If you mean Oscar needs money to pay/operate the site a fee/pay system will not work.Since this place has much to do with roller coasters,a good place to start is donations from the source. Nolimits,Scream machines, theme parks and so on.I don't know what Oscar pays each month or year. But most company's will support a cause that caters to there advertising.

I still think points should be deducted for every bad rate. If you need to be reported for a bad rate then you need to lose points. Even with the sites current set up.

I don't know. It's a suggestion.I don't know of to many sites that cater to roller coaster simulator games left.Ole has to spread the word about his product. You don't post a roller coaster simulator game on a Call of Duty site would you.
