No, you don't. What you're seeing is the unfinished cuts on the overlaid boards. This is common with basically any wooden coaster as I've seen it on every GCI as well. Once the track is laid down and they have a chance to go back and trim the edges of boards and lay the final layer, then you'll see the correct shape.
Go look at GCI construction. The first 6-7 layers don't show the true final shape. Its mostly an illusion and the fact that they don't always trim the boards so they are all perpendicular to the bents.
Why spend the time to run a circular saw over the whole thing when an inch or two of overlay is ok?
Similar to this how they didn't clean up the edges. That's what you're seeing.
I knew someone would say that too...wait till the steel is on, then judge the shaping.
