Anonymous and unknowns have recently hacked into Sony's Playstation Network, taking it down for a few hours. Six days ago, the second hack took place by unknowns and Sony turned off the network entirely. It's been a sad five days, no online play. They are re-building the network from the ground up to heighten overall security so it cannot happen again.

Well, so we hope. MAG and SOCOM4 are really needing me to shot f**kers in the face from the safety of my couch. [:D]

So what's your opinion? Has this affected you?

You have both PSN and XBL so I cant directly flame you...but for all the PSN Fanboys that are always going nuts about how its "Free! And XBL Sucks because you gotta pay for it" I say:

GFY!

Obviously PS needs some tips from MS about network security...I even more firmly believe that my 60 bucks a year for XBL goes into helping to prevent these kind of biblical outages.

Funny, some of my friends are thinking of selling their PS3 just because of this. It's as if they can't live without a games console. People need to get a love life.

Doesn't affect me seeing as I can't play online at my house anyway due to my HORRENDOUS internet connection.

Even so, PSN being hacked doesn't make it a bad online gaming platform. I prefer it to XBL simply because of the numbers of 12 year old Americans on XBL [lol]

My opinion? Haha, one more reason for me to stay on my pc :D

No, kidding, I think it's kinda not-cool for all the PS3 owners. But hell, this is what happens with all the DRM these days.

You can avoid that by not playing games that 12 years olds play. Simply really.

And when I do play games that 12 year olds play I do 1 of two things. Destroy them and bag them. Or? Betray and bag them. Both ways are humilating so its a win win. LOL

No, Reach turned out to be worse than I initially thought.

I still play Halo 3 (though Battlefield BC2 is my gig...) I only play H3 with a few friends because its what they play and we have 2 modes. When we play well, hard to stop us (we can take down some MLG'ers in our best games) but mostly, well play good once we get on a streak. Or, we basically see who can get booted first.

Team Rockets is "Who gets the highest negative number" game type, haha.

Stupidest system of the 3 to buy. And that is saying something since the Xbox 360 is less reliable than a Chrysler product.

Really? Ive had 2 original Xbox's and 2 360's - all of them are played regularly and never failed. The one was a floor model I bought off ebay so I KNOW it had some hours on it.

I think they fail because people are sometimes very stupid. It needs air and space to breathe like a computer. If its not sitting on a hard surface with room to breathe underneath, ANYTHING will overheat and die. 90% of the failures were all overheating.

I have had as many friends with PS3s die as Xboxs. And the PS3 was supposed to have spent billions on the development of their cooling and Ive got 2 friends sitting on big, black paper weights that dont play Blu Rays anymore.

But yea, its had its issues. I just have either had good luck or Ive treated it well and thats why none of my systems have bit the dust.

My Xbox 360 has been running flawlessly for years now. The Nintendo Wii insta-fries whenever there's a power surge...
Oh, were you expecting something here?

In our new Xbox 360 they don't over heat, so theres your cooling system! Ps3 was hacked and Xbox wasn't. That says Xbox is better or they would of got hacked.

I've had 2 Xbox's die out on me (this is my third). While that issue is really crappy, I still feel that the Xbox is superior. Besides, they seemed to have generally "fixed" the problem with the newer generation of 360s, so that's not so much of an issue now.

And Xbox Live is only $50 for a year, which is as much as a single, fairly new game. It's not expensive or anything, just go out and get a card once a year.

Interesting to hear about PSN though...I'm surprised it's been down this long!

Its 60 a year now AJ. But still...that gets you a lot more content too. I regularely use the ESPN thing to watch live games and re-broadcasts.

Oh well, $10 isn't that big of a difference.

You also can't deny that the Xbox controller is superior, and that the Xbox has more games of equal or better quality. And the Xbox is cheaper.

Anyway, getting off topic here. [:)]

I did play PSN for a while before, along with XBL, but I have the absolute worst model you can buy: the 1st gen. 20GB model. The only one produced without a Wi-Fi adapter installed, and I'm not moving another TV near my router just to play PSN.

Online PC gaming is about as stable, just less unified. Dedicated servers instead of peer to peer and most games have at least as good as, or better online experiences on PC vs on the 360.

That said, I bear with the XBL fees anyway to play the 360 exclusives that are worth it. (And for LANing, and the fact that 99% of my friends also have one.)

Anyway, one can't help but wonder how much the attacks on the PSN are related to the lawsuit and settlement earlier. If they are related, looks like Sony is getting what they asked for. (At the expense of their consumers too.)

Edit: Anon has officially said that it isn't them. Hmm...

Sure i agree, but i dont want to have to have to shell out 1/4 of my console price every year just to keep playing it online.

PS is doing a p*ss poor job atm sure.. but it is a free service!

This shouldn't turn into a XBox vs Playstation argument.. however one thing i will always say whenever anyone says anything bad about the playstation 3..

.. im sorry, but the playstation dosnt have an entire wikipedia page devoted to its technical problems!
