1D MKIV is a sports camera. Having a 1.3x crop factor gives it better reach (but unfortunately no EF-S lenses will work on it).

I think once you get above the XXD the cameras start being less about individual features like the Rebels are and more catered towards specific uses. The XXD is going to be well rounded, a clear step up from the Rebels but not really geared towards one thing. Then the 7D is clearly a birding/sports camera....There's no reason to get it over the XXD unless you need the speed and AF system (which I really don't). 5D is the compact pro camera for landscapes and studio work, but you really aren't going to take it over a 7D if all you do is BIF. It doesn't have a very good AF system and it only shoots at 3.7 fps or something like that. 1D MKIV is most definitely a pro sports camera as evidenced by watching any televised sporting event. All those white lenses and vert grip bodies = 1D MKIVs and L tele primes. then the 1Ds MKIII is kind of in an odd spot right now since it's old...It's supposed to be the end all be all (short of medium format) landscape camera, but most of it's feature set is out performed by most everything else in the line (still has a single Digic III processor) and it's image quality on the sensor level is matched by the 5D MKII. It still has one of the best AF systems in any of their cameras, but otherwise it's not really a good choice. It's supposedly next up for replacement though, along with the rumored 7D MKII.

Should be fun to dick around with for a week. Also got a hotshoe extension cord so I can use my (27 year old) Speedlite at different angles which should have a cool effect with fisheye.

Wow! Those are great pictures Real! I've never seen a Green Mamba.

Looks a lot like a Vine Snake with a more normal, round head - but still narrow. Strange to think hes extremely dangerous because many dangerous snakes just look dangerous, or evil. He looks rather harmless. infact, hes smiling

Gotten that wide angle in yet?

I'm getting it Friday. They wanted a full deposit on the Sigma ($900) which was more than I was comfortable with so I got the Tokina 10-15 or whatever instead. Not as distorted as I would have liked but I'm sure it will be good for what I want to try with it (more skatepark pics as well as some urbex).

Torn as to whether I like it or not....not sure it's something I'd pay full price for. Build quality is excellent and focusing is very fast (not that it really ever needs to leave infinity), and the distortion is very cool, but there is TONS of CA fringing, to the point I can't really fix it. Sharpness is a mixed bag depending very much on the subject but that's to be expected with this kind of lens. It's also kind of limited in it's usefulness....it's a cool effect but there's only so much you can do with it. Kind of limiting in composition.

I dunno, I think it's pretty nice. Especially that second one. The first one is beautiful, too, but not something that sticks out to me as "amazing".

Did another skatepark shoot today, with the fisheye. Have tons to go through, fired off about 1200, but here are a few I've done so far.

Last 2 are slick.

Too bad the last one couldnt have blue sky to augment his green rims. That woulda been B.A.

Thanks! Only that one was "crisp" Still practicing. Those were my first attempts at panning. Much harder than it seems but made easier when my camera fires at 6 frames a second! LOL

Canon 100-400 IS L Telephoto.

Or is it a Super Telephoto on my 40D? Well, you would take the 100 and 400 and times by 1.6 for true magnification because of sensor size.

So basically its a 160-640!!!!! And on top of that, at 100(160) it can go to a 4.5 (modest) but at 400(640) it only goes up one stop to a 5.6.

you find a lens that can be at a f5.6 at 400mm(640) that doesnt cost under 1400 (What I paid). In fact, if you want anything over 400 you gotta get a prime, unzoomable lens. The 500mm and 600mm are 7000 and 9000 respectively and both are f4. Yes, thats 1.5 stops more of light, but really...for the money, you CANNOT do better than this lens.

I just hope its a sharp copy. That or ill be sending into canon to have it tuned for my camera. But I did buy one thats made in the last 3-4 years (3 to be exact) and apparently all of those are individually tested and should be pretty sharp.
