Just turned on CNN because my friend got a text, and it turns out that Osama Bin Laden's death has just been confirmed. I'm surprised that 5 minutes after the announcement that nobody's posted this yet. Couldn't easily find any text-based story about it, so no link, but it's breaking news on all of the big news sites and tv stations.

I'm sure all of your Facebook news feeds are blowing up with statuses about it by now.

You cant be serious.....

@ Oscar, dont count on the US getting out of there anytime soon. If bin Laden is indeed dead, at the hands of the USA, he is now a myter. If anything, this war is about to get more serious.

I love the comments on this story:

Those people saying that Obama is going to win the 2012 election because of this must be smoking some good poop.

I would be happy if I was one who tipped off the location. That's $50 million reward, plus $2 million from the UN! Awesome money.

I also was watching Fox this morning and I saw all the chanting people outsite White House...I think it's kind-of funny TBH! I started cracking up...it's just crazy that people are so happy that someone died. Then again, I can't say I'm complaining either... [:P]

I wonder, seeing as they were an American squad, if they messed about with him before they killed him, as revenge [lol]

A couple of shots to the groin perhaps? [lol] nice.

Well its shown that extremist terrorists can be brought down, even after 10 years. Terrorism wont ever be stopped though, you'll have to wipe out every single extremest person (and NOT their religion).

He may have taken the lives of thousands of people by his own doing, but he's still a person, he still has a family and people who love him. He deserves just as much respect as any other dead person.

I dont celebrate his death for various reasons. Not going to really send condolances to his family per say, but I'm not celebrating like everyone else.

Add on top of that now the threat of retaliation is basically imminent.

I'm not so sure that we're celebrating his death, per se, but more of what it represents. I mean, he was pretty much a symbol for global terrorism for 20 years, and now that symbol is destroyed. No doubt people were celebrating long before they really absorbed it and realized that the rest of Al Qaeda is now really pissed off, but I think they were right to celebrated the symbolic achievement of it all. I know I, along with my fellow students, celebrated by jumping into a pond on campus - perhaps you've heard of the Mirror Lake Jump?

No, I am pretty sure the celebration is of his death. I have too many FB statuses addressing it...

Also what Haz said is still true. Respect for a dead person is universal. If its not, then we have become like gods, judging who is worthy and who is not. Very dangerous territory. (note the small g for gods...not turning this into religious)

I dont agree with anything Osama did but Ive come to learn I cannot wish death on my enemies. Its just not right.

Perhaps so. I suppose I was out of line to assume society as a whole is as rational as a few very rational people.
