SSD

So, I have recently finished upgrading my pc to all of the new hardware, except for a new SSD. Right now it is running on a WD green 1tb drive. The rig is set up as follows:

Setup:
CPU: Intel I7 2600k
MOBO: Asus Maximus IV Extreme
RAM: 16GB 1600Mhz Corsair Vengence
PSU: Thermaltake Toughpower 1200W
Graphics: 2 x GTX 580 SLI with GTX 280 for Physx
Case: Corsair Obsidian 800D

So the question I have is should I go with either 2 OCZ Vertex 3 120GB in Raid 0 or 1 OCZ Vertex 3 240GB and upgrade to 2 of them later down the road. They will be running off of the P67 controler for raid, not the Marvel.

Any help on this would be appreciated since I have never dealt with SSD or Raid 0 before, I just want to get off of the HDD since it is the only bottle neck for the system right now.

Whats wrong with HDD? I know It's slow, but If I were you I would buy an SSD just for your Windows OS files, and put all your game program files on the HDD.

Except, I am going to get a EK CPU Waterblock, GTX 590 Hydro Copper 2, and a GTX 560 Ti for PhysX.


Also, if I were you I would drop the GTX 280. Making one of your 580"s designated PysX is actually better performance. Upgrading to a GTX 560 Ti though for Dedicated PhysX would give you a lot more power.

I am planning on having my OS and programs on the SSD and putting media and everything else on the 4 2TB drives that I will be upgrading to from my current 3 1TB drives that I have almost completely filled. I was planning on having one drive set up for media, programs and games that I don't use that often. That way I can aviod using to many write cycles on the SSD that would not be of much use.

I am using the Corsair H70 Liquid CPU cooler and it is great. I was thinking about dropping the 280 and going with either the 560 TI or a 570. There is a site that shows comparisons between any kind of graphics cards. www.hwcompare.com

Since you will be using almost the same setup, which drive option would you go for, the 2 120GB gives great seq read and write of around 1Gbps, but it only gives me a 4kb random read of around 40,000 Iops. With the 240Gb it gives me half of the seq read and write, but my Iops jumps to 60,000, and that would then double when and if I upgrade it down the road.

Get the second one. And yeah, I have not decided what cooling system I want. I for sure know I am going to liquid cool everything.


Also, can I ask you a question? Is it worth it to liquid cool RAM? If I buy to 8 GB DDR3 sticks It would fit on the Maximus IV Extreme. Also, Can you change the color of the liquid in the liquid cooling system with that cooler? I will be having my whole PC have the Republic of Gamers red and black scheme.

be aware that SSDs are not always 100% reliable. over a certain size they have a very high failure rate. im in a Microsoft IT program and we have them on a several of our computers and have had nothing but problems with a few of them while the the other ones give us none at all.

On the H70 it is a closed circut and all the tubing is black, so no color changing ability. As far as liquid cooling you ram, if your going to be doing major overclocking then I would go for it, if not just go with one of the Corsair dual fan assemblies for ram and you should be fine. So if you want to color your liqued cool setup I would do your own cpu cooler and not one that is on its own.
