Well he has a few more cymbals than you requested, but it's close enough. But so what if Neil Peart prefers a large set? As a drummer, I enjoy producing as many sounds as I can with my set.

Jayman, what are you talking about? Why hate Rush?

Because he doesn't like Rush. Deal with it.

Overcomplicated drumsets are for morons. Can the ear even detect the difference between all of the cymbals?

I dont think thats a valid argument.

How does a 4 piece with 2 cymbals define greatness any more or less than a massive kit?

Its like saying that Michael Schumacher was the greatest driver who ever lived because he ran faster times around the same track than Graham Hill or the earliest F1 drivers did. Both in different machines. Same applies here.

If you want to be great on a 4 piece you'll need a different skill set than an 80 piece. He will have to relearn how to make the huge kit work for him. Just like NP would have to relearn how to apply his talents to the 4 piece.

Its ok if you prefer a smaller kit but don't say that the larger kit makes him less of a talent. That's silly.

Music is art and art is not objective. Never has, never will be.

I don't wanna sound like a dick, but, I created this thread to share the craziest poop you have ever SEEN a drummer do, not who the better drummer is, I created a topic for that a few months back.

Not literally a solo, but these guys have more talent than everyone linked to in this thread combined. Drum break is from ~0:20-1:00.

Also, pure awesomeness at 8:20-8:25 (and various places in between):

Marching band isn't a drumset solo, I think that was pretty clearly implied by the topic.

It's better than Slipknot but that's like looking better than an African dictator.

Actually, when I posted the topic I forgot how crazy some of the D&BC's can get. [sillyme]. I am changing the title and original post. Some corps. are actually a lot more fun to watch than even Tommy lee or Travis Barker's crazy stage antics.

I disagree, the large kit to me says show off and self indulgence. That Buddy Rich clip while good, certainly isn't why he's regarded as the best drummer ever and shows when he doesn't have much to work with he isn't as impressive as he's made out to be imo. It's great that he can keep time over different forms of percussion in a solo, but doesn't make him as good as he's regarded to be IMO.

My personal favorite, one one the lesser known drummers, Brian Chippendale of Lightning Bolt, still just as insane as everyone else in the thread.

I like some of Muse's songs, mostly the ones inspired by classical composers...

Anyway, I know a joke on this topic...
Who do drummers hang out with the most?

lol I usually refer to drummers with large drumsets as a little cocky, as it really isn't all that necessary to have so much going on with one set. But damn, if I ever had a bajillion dollars to randomly blow on a drumset like that, I would. So I don't hold it against them. haha
