The fireworks weren't even the ones we watched but across the city in my hometown. The pics I took of the huge fireworks didn't turn out as planned because we ended up being so close.

But it made watching them quite fantastic!

Dude! were you dropped on your head, Independence Day a phony holiday? Apparently the colonial era is taught differently in the UK. The significance of this day is July 4, 1776 the Declaration of Independence was signed declaring the colonies independent from British rule. Not to mention the fact that most of the original settlers were puritans seeking independence and refuge from British rule. So, your comment about the British "giving" us a country is ridiculous and ignorant.

Maybe it's like how states in the south call the Civil War the War of Northern Aggression or the Northern Uprising, etc.

^ We're taught the same facts, we just don't get taught about it with the same patriotic slant and therefore don't really have the same love and patriotism for the events. Why would we? [lol] I don't think it's something that most British people would be particularly interested in learning more about and it's not even like the USA is the only nation who fought us for their independence, or were given their independence.

But to sum up: We set you up pretty good with the stuff you needed to build on, you decided you could do it on your own and thought that the whole monarchy thing was essentially Disney style faggotory and said "No!, Stop it!", kicked us in the balls and ran off [lol]

ohh did i touch a nerve

look if we had not said "ok if you think you can do it better then go ahead" just for us to still be laughing at your many failures then there would be no holiday, yes you celebrate a fake holiday just like christmas, easter and pretty much every other religious holiday out there

"lol jk", don't lie, that was not a joke. If you're basing your opinions of British people on me and Gaz, you're not going to have a lot to go on and your opinion is bound to be bad [lol]

(btw, the opinions in the post above this do not represent the views of English people... only Gaz) [lol]

Fireworks are banned in San Antonio, so I'm going to bed.

I can grill and drink beer any day of the year.

Gaz, you cannot compare Independence Day to any of those other holidays. It's not like a card company picked some random day because they wanted to add more holidays to the calendar. As I said before, July 4th DOES have historical and political significance. IMO it is the MOST important holiday we celebrate. had the Declaration of Independence not been signed, this country would be a lot different, maybe better, maybe worse, but one thing is for sure, there is tangible proof and actual evidence proving that what is claimed to have happened on this day in 1776 did ACTUALLY happen, unlike those religious holidays.

I'm pretty sure Gaz is just trollin'... at least I hope he is [lol]

Not really sure you can lump Independence Day in with religious holidays, Gaz... think of it as America's birthday. Just like we celebrate... like we celebrate... hmmm... England doesn't have a day like this...? All I can think of is celebrating the queen's jubilee or something, which is more pointless than a sphere. Britain wasn't born on a specific day, it just... was always there [lol] Either that or it's just such ancient history that no one remembers, heck, even the city I live in was formed in the 8th century.
