I would be happier if entrants gave no information about there parks, with blind judging it could help judges work out who has made what.

What about supports for paths / coasters? I know it's possible to avoid that they touch the ground, but it will hardly look any realistic...

Which leads me to my next question:

JUDGING

T: Flow of the rides, path layout, does the scenery make sense? Etc.
A: Height/speed of rides, popularity of rides, overall experience, etc.
O/Acc: Designer accuracy, original elements, scenery layout, etc.

So realism is no criterion? Will parks that are crammed with exciting and original rides be preferred to realistic looking, "moderate" parks? Will points be deducted if there's no 120+ ft coaster?

These questions are not meant to be judging (as they may sound), I'm just wondering what kind of park we should build. More generally asked:
Are we looking for a fantasy or realistic mini park? Or is this each designer's own choice?

To answer the first question, Pad, You will have to use scenery to make do with missing supports with roller coasters and paths. In real life, roller coasters are separated from paths so that supports can be used uninterruptedly. So, if I were to see a roller coaster loop over a path, and there was no reasonable supporting for the loop, I would probably mark down a lot for that.

Second question is already answered if you read the rules. Realistic and original coasters are expected. This is supposed to be a plausible park with realistic coaster and park designs. So, having 10 coasters in a 40x40 square would probably not be too realistic. As for the height rule, it was placed to prevent us judges from seeing more than one tall coaster in the park. You certainly don't have to build a coaster 160 feet up in the air, but just know that ALL coasters will be under the 120 ft. limit (excluding the one coaster that is allowed to reach up to 160 ft.).

If you have any more questions, feel free to ask.
Oh, were you expecting something here?

THIS JUST IN! If you are making a dueling coaster, you are allowed to have BOTH coasters reach a maximum of 160 feet in height. However, the dueling coaster will still be considered 2 roller coasters.

Please note that this means that all other coasters cannot reach higher than 120 feet in height.

UNLESS it is a one track dueling coaster. Then it still only counts as one coaster.

EDIT: Oh, and guys- don't send your questions to the judges through PM's. Post all of your questions on here!

Thanks for the answers rcking04, however you misunderstood my first question. I wanted to ask if the supports from paths/coasters are allowed to touch the marsh and creek. Reading your post I guess the answer is yes, as a 30ft long bridge without supports would be very unrealistic.

Use the wooden pieces in the scenery to raise the supports.

And to Pad- READ RULE #4!

Yes craigster001, we would look, but only because we have to check here for new Q&A every day. But please, keep it to yourself.

AND TO EVERYBODY: Do not post your parks on the exchange until AFTER the contest is over, meaning that the winners have been announced.

I just started mine yesterday. Might have to re-do some stuff as I ended up making a ride occupy too much space.

Are the height rules regarding non-coasters also similar? To be safe, I will, for the moment, assume that they are. Not like a park that tiny would be likely to feature a 300 ft high tower anyway.

One gripe on the template: The scenery options are VERY limited. What gives? Don't pretend that an extended library of scenery items won't be used even in an amusement (not theme) park.

coasteragent, not everybody here has access to all the other scenery packs. We kept it safe and accessible to everyone this time around. Future contests will expand to feature custom scenery.

Also, to answer your question, only coasters have the height limit, and the theme park is in a mountainous region, meaning some guests might like to be able to view the surrounding area.

Ah, that's a good one then. No pressure.

Well, scratch that. This isn't going so hot. I have one coaster. I need five.

I'm talking about BUILT-IN scenery sets. Take the Jungle or Mine theme for instance. In order to not have these items, the player has to manually remove them after installing. But thanks to them not being included in the template, it's impossible to build wooden stations, buildings, and structures.

As for custom scenery, you can simply include them in the template. The main reason you wouldn't allow/include them is because not everyone is well versed in how to pick out and use good custom scenery sets effectively, and whoever runs the contest also much choose very carefully, which obviously was not done for this template and the built-in scenery selected.

Honestly, this is just the first contest, and I have WW and TT installed on my version. I didn't want to risk using a scenery pack that isn't available with the vanilla RCT2. So, stop complaining, and just deal with it for this contest.
