I was at sfot and i was in line for pandemonium and these kids in front of me were arguing about how tall rollercoasters at the park were.

Kid 1: Well Titan is at least twice as tall as texas giant and its like 300 feet high.
Kid 2: Titans not 600 feet tall its only like 500.javascript:insertsmilie('[?]')

I laughed my butt off.

I was reading an article about takabisha and these people kept saying, "wow what a fail!! 90 degrees is as steep as it gets!! What noobs!" And "You guys are stupid, there just saying 121 to make it seem amazing really it's only 59." and my personal favorite "That drop isn't 121 degrees, it is clearly 90, thats a pretty insane lift though, you almost go upside down."

*facepalm*
Friendship is like peeing. Everyone can see it, but only you get the warm feeling it brings.

I still say the steepest slope you can have is 90*, in response to the comments a few posts up.

Today @ Waldameer. This was a grown woman talking to her kid and she was NOT trying to help her sound it out, she really was having trouble.

Hunny do you wanna go on the uh...let's see its the Ray-Vine Flyer Eye Eye.
(10 seconds later)
Oh wait its the Ray-Vine Flyer 2 ok...hunny do you wanna go on the Ray-Vine Flyer 2?

Then the ops says enjoy your flight on Ravine Flyer 2 and she says to the kid "Wow that guy running the ride said the name wrong."

From a McGraw Hill book on economics, referring to graphs: "The steepest possible slope is a vertical line. The flattest possible slope is a horizontal line."

Not a great reference, but that's all I could find without wasting too much time. With that said, I did just find a dictionary that said "steepness" could be defined as angle with respect to the plane of the horizon, which could theoretically mean the parks are correct.

However, by their own definition, why is an El Loco steeper than a Screamin' Squirrel? If the curve can't be braked that's not exactly a solid definition, especially considering 4/5 of the El Loco drops are braked. I assume all the flat sections are descending slightly, and those parts aren't braked, so you can't say it isn't a roller coaster...it still picks up speed as it descends down the track. I think parks just want any way to advertise their rides, even if it's false or made up.

dcs... I think you're wrong about the difference between the drop of a Screaming Squirrel and the 90+ degree drops on other coasters.

To me, the Screaming Squirrel changes orientation from the rider rightside-up to upside-down by following a 180 degree curve. Technically, the drop reaches a 90 degree angle before it proceeds to change rider orientation.

Meanwhile, the drops on the El Loco models do not change rider orientation during the drop, so the rider remains rightside-up before and after the drop. Because of this, the drop can advertise itself as a 90+ degree drop...
Oh, were you expecting something here?

Idiot #1: "Does this one go upside-down?" (Points to Fahrenheit)

Idiot #2: "No, this is the only one in the park that doesn't."

People make poop up all the time to advertise.

Did you know that Six Flags Great America is the nation's best waterpark, inside America's best theme park? And we're the world's cleanest theme park, and we have the world's best funnel cakes!

I'm not making this up, they actually advertise this.

This thread annoys me because people who call themselves enthusiasts also make up some of the dumbest crap Ive ever heard.

In fact, some of the most insane and idiotic things I hear coaster related come from people who claim to "know" rather than those who just "dont care". And its a far bigger crime to claim you know and spout off garbage than to be around your friends, all of whom know nothing including yourself and make up tall tales.
