From 1972 to 1997, a period of 25 years, 32 people died in America as a direct result of amusement park rides.

Can you imagine what the figure is for road deaths over the same period?

The number of incidents involving rides gets closer and closer to zero every year.

Did anyone ever stop and think the reason the veteren was thrown from the ride maybe because he didn't have any legs! I mean, i feel like he'd need a OTSR or special restraints in order for his to be completely safe.

Also since when was a ride being stuck on a lift a danger to health, and safety, technical error, oh well! But I love ABCs thinking, lets interview a kid who cant think this way.

For what they call an issue with trains stopping on the lift hill, even the smallest amount of research would of told them that it is a safety precaution/back up when it does stop. They maybe shouldn't have gave an intern this story to do.

That is an interesting fact Gouldy, we just need a transatlantic rollercoaster now lol

--Over a period of 25 years, 32 people died in America as a direct result of amusement park rides.-- The numbers aren't exact, I hate math, but it gives you a generalization.

Each year 50 - 100 people die from bee stings in the U.S.
Each year 150 people in the U.S die of all food allergic reactions, primarily peanut butter.
About 40 people (children) per year die by drowning in 5-gallon water pails.
Approximately 150 people are killed every year by falling coconuts. Therefore, you are MORE LIKELY based on the 25 year fact to be killed by a PALM TREE than a roller coaster.
Average amount of people killed in automobiles per year in the U.S... 42,366
Amount of people killed by cigarettes every year... 440,000
Lightning strikes... 73
2nd hand smoke 35,000
Guns 30,000
Of all the injury claims, the total number of average fatalities for amusement park rides each year: 3 to 6 out of the 1.7 billion rides taken in the U.S. annually.

The numbers are pretty obvious to me.

That news was pretty shocking. But 5 gallon? They must either be babies or really stupid people.

"They had to walk down an emergency stairway"

5 people were injured and 2 were killed... WTF! How is it dangerous to walk down a stair case?

Also, I find it ironic that ABC is saying this. Let's look at the best scenario to get ABC back:

ABC says roller coasters are dangerous - Millions of people back out of going to Disney Resorts because of fear of coasters.
1.Boulder Dash | 2.Legend(HW) | 3.Beast | 4.Ravine Flyer II | 5.Intimdator 305 | 6.Phoenix | 7.Twisted Timbers | 8.Wicked Cyclone | 9.Thunderhead | 10.Storm Chaser

Then Disney Sues and all is restored.

I also hate that the evacuation was covered as a huge unsafe/risk ordeal. That evacuation probably saved their lives.

(not exaggerating) People are just soo hopelessly stupid these dayz

I can top that:
In the line for Desert race:
The guy next to me is panicing as the rollback brakes are being lowerd for the start, cause he thinks the coaster is broken and quits the line with his GF.Don`t tell me about stupid people.though itn had one advantage:
2 persons less before me.

I've read in an interview that the following have safety factors:
Airplanes: 1.7
Buildings: 2.0
Roller Coasters: 20.0 - 40.0

1 is the lowest number to be considered safe.
Roller Coasters are 20 to 40 times more safe than they have to be.

I too didn't know about Disney and ABC

Oh yay, another leftist news station that blows everything out of proportion and goes "OMG RIDES ARE EVIL HELP US GEAT ALMIGHTY GOVERNEMENT WERE TOO RETARDED TO SEE FACTS!" I swear, there just as bad as fox. Why isnt there a libertarian new channel that's unbiased?
A man has needs and that needs is booze.
