Agreed Real.

rcking, I have no clue what you're talking about. Rider orientation changes every time the train follows any sort of curve in the track. I'm not saying I'm right, but I at least think my argument is logical.

OK, so the drop on the Screaming Squirrel is technically an inversion because it flips the rider upside down... basically a half loop going down instead of up. So, it's not really a drop...

However, the drop on Steel Hawg is 121 degrees because the rider does not technically experience going upside down. Thus, they can market the drop as 121 degrees steep because it's not an inversion.

Oh, and using an economics textbook is a great way to prove your point... since you pulled the "logical opinion" card on me.
Oh, were you expecting something here?

The reference is a basic explanation of a graph...it was written just to introduce readers to what a line graph is. Though it was in an economics book, it didn't really have anything to do with economics other than to introduce a commonly used tool.

So, according to you, if Steel Hawg had say a 135* drop, or whatever you consider the start of an inversion, then it would no longer have the world's steepest drop? What about the 134* before you considered it an inversion? Screamin' Squirrels also have a straight pullout, so they don't really go fully around in a circle like a vertical loop, so I hope that's not part of your argument.

This is what annoys me so much about this site. It is this condescending attitude that people have because they try to seem like they are above everybody, and the exaggeration that people have just to make them seem smart. I'm sorry to put you on the spot on this one Real, you're not the only one like this.

There are basic ideas of roller coasters that these non-enthusiasts miss that people are laughing at here. I think it is appropriate to laugh at someone who asks if Kingda Ka is a wooden coaster, or if someone is surprised if something fell out of their pocket when the ride doesn't go upside down. These are all failures of understanding basic physics or making a 2 second observation.

Then, you come in trying to be that person who contradicts everybody who has posted in this topic, make them feel stupid just because you think you are above everyone. It seems like everyone on this site has done this, including myself, but there are some who go overboard (not necessarily you).

One final thing: Yes, people make mistakes on things they know the most about. It happens. Most of the time they do not have the same resources as someone else who may be deeper in the amusement industry. Otherwise, it is very complex, or if it is basic and they get corrected, they have a serious facepalm. But isn't that why we are all here? To learn from each other? We all do the same thing when it comes to other topics, like me and video games, so they can go to a forum and laugh about it themselves. People who post here are just trying to poke fun at the ignorance of people, who obviously know absolutely nothing about something even a non-enthusiast, in theory, should know. Once you start realizing that this topic is just for fun, you may not have as much of a problem with it, and if you disagree, just ignore the topic. /end rant

Not trying to be like this (or troll), but i thin a majority of the site would also say banning jcoasters would be beneficial to helping end this

Just as another thought for devilsrule, my problem with this thread is the same as yours, except you've singled out one person with a dissenting viewpoint. The way I see it, this thread is full of people who are doing nothing but putting others down, often seemingly trying to make themselves seem better, smarter, or more knowledgeable. I know you just used him as an example, but I think it's unfair to single out Real (or even myself, as I have expressed similar ideas earlier in this thread) in light of what I've said about people making fun of others.

Also, I find it ironic that many of the people who laugh at others for not understanding what you call basic physics can't put together a cohesive, gramatically correct sentence. What's more important: knowing random facts about roller coasters, or being able to speak English?

Yeah, I kind of threw myself under the bus there, didn't I? After I posted it, I was thinking the exact same thing. [lol] I understand that people here are doing the same thing, as well, but my intention was to show that people are doing it within the community and making the forum break apart. I am responsible for it myself on multiple occasions.

I do apologize for singling out Real, I just had an opposing viewpoint and I wanted to share it and I also wanted to show my displeasure with this site. It wasn't directed at him, more at the community. Real is not usually the one responsible for this from what I've seen.

I is not sure what yous saying. All unoriginal, half assed joking aside, that's exactly it. If there are basic things that people don't understand about a topic, the people who do understand can poke fun at it. (yes English is more important) However, I'm not as inclined to approve putting down people within the same community for participating in a thread, which is what bothers me.

It's indeed a bit tricky to arguably distinguish between a drop and an inversion if you use that logic, however...

I think the Screaming Squirrel drop is an inversion only because it repeats the same thing. As in, it's completely controlled with absolutely no legitimate gravity controlled fall. The El Loco and Eurofighters do include a drop like that. However, if in the future there exists a coaster whose main drop is an inversion (a 135+ degree drop) than I can see how it can still be called a drop...

I hope that makes more sense.
Oh, were you expecting something here?

See, this is what everyone's complaining about. From a POV, it's hard for someone who doesn't study roller coasters as a hobby to a) tell how tall a ride is, b) compare that height to another ride, c) figure out the layout, and d) compare that layout to another ride. Hell, I've noticed that it's hard for people to follow layouts in real life (I've drawn Maverick's layout on a napkin when I was bored and my dad asked, "what are you scribbling about?" - he's ridden it maybe 5 times). I bet you anything that whoever made that comment saw the POV, said, "Hey, it's wooden. Oh, it's also brown! Wait a second...Texas Giant is wooden and brown, too! It must be similar." That's all they could decipher from the POV. It's not because they're stupid. It's because they don't have any experience comparing roller coasters that aren't at SFOT. They don't know what else is out there, and frankly, I guarantee that they couldn't give two shits.

Oh hell no. I'm not about to call anyone stupid for not having the same hobbies as me.

But, poop. They weren't even the same shade of brown. The only similarity I could find is that it was made of wood. It was the comment that made me facepalm, not the person that wrote it.

Even if they don't know, it's silly to post facts that you don't know, whether it's about coasters or something else. I always laugh at those people that just act like they know what they are talking about but don't. This is why a lot of the non-enthusiast comments are hilarious. They just so happen to be the expert on it, but really have absolutely no idea what they are talking about.

Before I go spouting out facts and "truths", I usually make sure I'm right lol.

In line for Iron Wolf: boy sees the train leave the station and go to the lift hill. as the train goes throught the loop: "Is that the same ride??" My response was "no, that's the other ride with the same color track and the same cars."

Also in line for Iron Wolf: "You see those pylons? (they were concrete footers) the only reason the rides here have those is becasue they don't own the land and only lease it from Gurnee. At every other theme park, the posts go right into the ground. All the rides here are like carnival rides." [lol]

I was in line for the Mine Ride at CP, when a kid was teasing his brother about being scared and said the ride went 400 miles per hour. At that exact moment, he heard TTD and started SCREAMING! I loled so hard i thought my ribs were gonna break.

I thought that I overheard someone at Dorney yesterday someone saying something along the lines of "Look they moved Magnum here from Cedar Point" pointing at Steel Force I would assume. If not, there may be no help for them at all.
