Cedar Point Breaks 2 World Records

Timing was everything Sunday at Cedar Point amusement park, where two Guinness Book world records were eclipsed.

The Sandusky entertainment venue invited 401 guests to juggle beach balls and keep them in the air for at least 10 seconds, simultaneously. They accomplished the feat under a Guinness Book of World Records adjudicator's watchful eye.

To qualify for the record, Cedar Point had to have a minimum of 250 beach balls individually juggled for 10 seconds or longer. Thus, Cedar Point set a new world record -- for the most beach balls in the air simultaneously at a single venue.

"It turned out fantastic," said Rebecca Baker, a marketing coordinator for the amusement park. "Everybody had a lot of fun."

Participants were at the park by 9 a.m. and took about 30 minutes to prepare for the event, which started at 9:30.

Those who dropped their beach balls were subtracted from the grand total.

Ms. Baker said the beachball record was a brainchild of Cedar Point and Guinness World Records.

As soon as the beach ball juggling was over, another event was held, in which 681 people simultaneously applied sunscreen.

By continuously putting on sunscreen for two minutes, they broke a world record of 675, which was established in Belgium on June 25, organizers of the Cedar Point event said.

The beach balls were supplied by Discount Drug Mart Inc. Panama Jack, a sun-lotion company of Orlando, Fla., provided more than 700 foil packets of sunscreen.

Participants were able to buy tickets to the amusement park online for $36, saving about $12 per admission. A portion of the proceeds was donated to the Northern Ohio Chapter of the American Cancer Society.

Hmm... My very first and only visit to Cedar Point was a couple weeks ago and a couple beach balls were being volleyed around in the Maverick line.


After a few minutes of harmless fun, an attendant came by, snagged the balls, and punctured them.[V]

But now this? I feel cheated.

I misinterpreted the title.

The beach balls sound fun and the sunscreen sounds kinda creepy and wierd.

It sounds like they are trying to make up for SFMM having more coasters by holding stupid world records.
