I have been infected all this time with a worm virus "W32.Parite.B" and I have just found out that when I burnt my NL tracks onto a CD to show my friend. He scanned them (Hes very protective) and found that they were infected by the worm. Does anyone know much about it? whats the worst that can happen?

The Mcafee scanner detected the virus. I was watching it as it said "-----.nltrack was infected with W32.Parite.B"

I'm finding out the hard way now that my Counterstrike wont work, (Havent tried NL yet) AIM is 'decayed' and some exe files have been corrupt.

Heres Symantec's info on that virus:
http://securityresponse.symantec.com/av ... pinfi.html

and McAfee's:
http://vil.mcafee.com/dispVirus.asp?vir ... structions

According to them it doesn't really do anything other than spread itself, they make no mention of a payload.
Its strange that it would be found in a .nltrack file, they say it only infects .exe and .scr files.
It doesn't do anything specificly nasty, but as you are noticing its spread will slowly degrade the performance of your computer.

I can't find any way to remove it other than buying some antivirus software. You could download one of the free trial versions from Symantec: http://nct.digitalriver.com/0001/

McAfee don't seem to have any free trials, but they do have a free virus scanner http://www.mcafee.com/myapps/mfs/ which would tell you if you have any other infections, and let you know how far this one has spread.

I just bought Mcafee 7.0 and now have things cleaned but some .exe's got badly damaged. My computer has gotten kinda laggy when playing NL, C&C Generals, and even just right clicking something. Any remedies to this? (I'm beginning to feel like I'm using my old 133 Mhz computer.

Due to the infections and stuff, my computer is going slow. Does anyone know how to fix it? The infected files are clean already as posted before.

Well, do you have Windows? If so, you can reinstall it, it takes about 45 mins for me to do it. After I reinstalled Windows on my computer, it ran really fast. it might help, but you'll lose all your programs you had and you'll have to setup everything, including your internet.

reformatt!!! or use symantec norton antivirus? I'll be hionest with you, when i had mccaffee, I had many virii, that stupid program never worked, once getting Symantec, it found many viriiand deleted them all [pshades] Though there's down sides to Symantec as well, like with everything. But reformatting might be the best option, baring you have a backup of everything.

I've made backups of my NL tracks, No Limits (Which could have been damaged by the worm), my pix, and so on. I'm kinda worried about reformatting bcuz I had to work on Spaceman's computer and I reformatted everything but it will now not accept Windows. I tried multiple times now, looked at a hammer sitting next to the comp., and tryed doing "FDISK" and now, I cant even install the origonal OS on there. I may deal with the slowness no mattter how bad it gets until I can feel secure about reformatting.

I had that viruse before, it sucked, it started spreading other viruses and then, it disabled norton! So we didn't know what the heck it was. It got to the point were are computer said we didn't have a hard drive! My dad, some how got the boot disk to work, thank god. Now, we scan for viruses much more, and I would recomend norton anti viruse, it is a very good program.

Well, if some one has norton, or something, you could try to install it on the computer, if it works, it will detect and it will delet most of the viruses, but it might not delet all of them, so I don't realy know what to tell you, hope you get ride of it though.

I doubt that Spaceman's computer will be back in working shape for a while, or until I can either figure out what's going on or until a new harddrive is bought. I cant even partition hers....so dont expect to see her up on here for a while. "Hey, tell them that I wont be on here for a while" -quoted from Spaceman after her comp got scrrewed

Good news!!!
I just reformatted my computer and am fully clean of the worm. I had some friends come over and Spaceman's computer is back in working shape again. I just have to reinstall all of my programs again but my comp is in great shape again!
