From watching CNN, Brooklyn is now flooded and Manhattan is close to being breached.

Downtown isn't the whole of Brooklyn, and when someone has 5 feet of water in their basement and it's 10ft below street level you won't see it. Try to be a little less self centered about the whole thing.

Just so you know... Downtown is very close to the Brooklyn Bridge, which that area was evacuated. So, before you call me self-centered, just know that you aren't even living in NYC.

Great Adventure along with, Dorney, Lake Compounce, and at least Six Flags New England are all closed today so I would assume they are all doing fine. Although I would bet all of them have some degree of flooding to contend with though.

Speaking of Irene, she is battering me with Tropical Storm conditions as of 2:00 PM yesterday.

There were rumors that Kingda Ka fell over by idiots, but that was confirmed to be false (no poop), so I'm assuming the rest of the park is fine. I'm more worried about Morey's Piers. The water covered the entire beach.

I hope Coney Island will be okay. The Cyclone was my first wooden roller coaster ride.

I'm currently in Philadelphia, and where I'm at theres nothing but trees down and broken branches, however a mile down the road to manayunk and that whole part of the city is under water. I was just about to apply for a job there too.

I like how they counted a man having a heart attack boarding up his house as a death from Irene. I call BullSh*t. Unless he was boarding up his house for 12hrs straight, going as fast as he could go, it sounds like the poor guy was ready for a myocardial infarction. I feel bad but really, it wasnt related to Irene in any way other than he was preparing his house for it. More media sensationalism.

Well, Real, I think it's indirectly Irene's fault if you use the cause and effect equation. Cause: Irene is coming, and you need to board up windows to protect house. Effect: The physical strain of boarding windows leads to a heart attack. If Irene wasn't coming, there would have been no need for him to board his windows.

However, I agree that it's kinda stupid that the guy's death is considered Irene's fault directly by the news companies.

I completely agree with rc. I was thinking the exact same thing. It is an indirect result of Irene, but, I don't consider it an Irene tragedy. Anyway, I have relatives on the east coast(NY and NH) and I was so happy to hear that they are OK and damage to their area was minimal.

My grandparents house got flooded from Irene

I was down in Mason all weekend at Kings Island and it was beautiful, sunny, and hot the whole time, a little windy and ironically Windseeker was shut down for that, but no more wind than the WS at Cedar point has on a daily basis from the lake erie winds. Not sure how the Aurora/Youngstown/Akron area tended to while I was away, but I'm back now and it is still beautiful. Guess it missed us, or maybe it's yet to come... usually Ohio gets a lot of rain no matter what from these hurricanes, but so far it's been clear.

Indirect and direct are totally different. You are correct in saying its indirect but Irene herself did not cause this. It wasnt like a gust of wind blew down his house or floods took the home away while he was in it, spawned a tornado, etc.

He was simply boarding his house and they had tons of warning. Sure theres a TON of things to do preparing for something like this but know a thing or two about heart attacks:

Its not random. You have one because conditions within your heart/arteries are already ripe for it. Unlike a Stroke which, heck even the healthiest person can have a small clot form, find its way to somewhere important and cause a blood vessel to burst.


So while its indirect I dont think its direct and thus, he could have went out to work on his car the same day and died the same time.
