Had a look this mopho thing. The flexibility of programming this via software looks excelent. I might consider buying one.

^you wont be sorry. i love mine, it doesnt take the place of my '70s synths, but it is 100 percent analog, 4 envelopes , 4 16 step sequencers that can be routed to ANY parameter, and a genuine curtis filter that can process external audio.when midi'd up to my daw it works just like a plug in , . heres the video of mine a few minutes after i got it home not the best demo, but right out of the box, a couple tweaks on an already very nice preset midi'd up to my drumtraks and juno 60 and i think ensoniq eps..

And AJ, cheers for knowing of Madeon. I remember when that kid first started out back in FL Studio 6 or so. (Yes, he produces everything in FL Studio) He was only 14, but he was amazing everybody over at Image Line. I honestly attribute him and Gol for making FL Studio what it is today. He was, and still is, so innovative with it. And syncopation isn't necessarily about instruments talking back and forth, its just emphasis on the off beat. Like a hat on every 'and' of the beat, or a lead starting on the up beat. I think what you're thinking of is more glitch or complextro style.

Yeah, I remember that syncopation was really the off-beat emphasis. It is something I also like. But I guess what I was really trying to explain was the "cut/paste" style that I think of each time. It almost sounds like parts from many songs cut and pasted all over to make a melody. Obviously that's not necessarily the case (unless it's something like Pop Culture or a remix), but the style I'm getting at is the hard cut-offs and range of tones. But yeah, it's basically general electro style.

Parts where syncopation really make me jizz are parts like the synth/snare combo on Sofi Needs a Ladder. I mean, the synth is off beat a lot of the time in that phrase (it appears that it's on a slightly skewed time signature that allows for a few more notes to fit into the phrase), but on the ends it just syncopates right in with the snare and then the drop follows for the bass line groove. God, that gets me going every time. I think there's another moment on Cthulhu Sleeps where the "vwaaam" noise or whatever (lol, getting official here) speeds up then slows down, but at a point where it's slowing down it's syncopating into the beat before it slows more and dissipates. Love that poop too.

There are other examples like Hi Friend! that really get me going with that hook melody. But yeah. Notice a lot of these examples are Deadmau5, and that's why I like him. Not because he's the "go-to guy" for people trying to be a hipster and liking electronic music, but because I honestly like his stuff.

So why don't they just use a proper time signature to make it work instead of having the computer force it?

^I think that's what he used. It's probably a really far off time signature.

Listen to the synth that joins in at 0:34. The snare is on a constant beat and the synth is on a different time signature. It's just cool to listen to. Although if you're not an EDM fan, you'll probably think "this is just annoying and stupid". But I find it awesome.

AJ, I think you are talking about Complextro (complex electro.) It has that very 'chopped up' feel to it where it seems like they just took bits of a bunch of songs and somehow threw them together. I think Madeon is one of the best at this. I still love his remix of Pendulum's The Island.

And that dead mow five (cheers if you understand that reference) link you gave is quite something. Haven't heard that song yet, but that is pretty interesting. Sounds like maybe its a 7/4 time signature over a 4/4 time signature.

And CKid, electronic music isn't the first place you see time signatures different for different instruments. I know Liquid Tension Experiment has done it, and they are progressive tech metal. So you can't blame it on the computer or the artist being lazy. Honestly, they way he set up the intro is quite intuitive if you ask me.

lol, I totally understand the reference...everybody that reads the name for the first time always says "What's...dead...mow...five??"

I'm really surprised you haven't heard of Sofi Needs a Ladder! It's one of the 3 most popular tracks on his new album 4x4=12. It's even been played on the (pop music) radio a few times I think.

Yeah, I guess it would be "complex electro" or whatever lol. Still, it doesn't always have to be complex and chopped up, I just generally love it when it's chopped up in general...adds to the funk and groove. Justice's "D.A.N.C.E." (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sy1dYFGkPUE&ob=av2e , 0:30 especially has a cool sorta-swingish feel) and Daft Punk's "Face To Face" (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dKJfJMMsqX4&ob=av2e) are good examples of how it's got slight choppiness but it's not a widespread melody over tons of instruments and octaves. I don't know if that's really complex electro, but it has that feel if you will.

Anyway, I like it all. And I really like every Madeon track lol. Shuriken is awesome (especially since it's free right from his Soundcloud in high quality), especially the second time the chorus goes in where he starts adding a little bit to it (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dmc8AhGskLs , 2:00 and onward). Also, the part at 2:28...LOOOVE that little whirly-gig melody there. But yeah, the Yelle track, the Pendulum track, the originals (For You, Shuriken), the Deadmau5 track, Pop Culture, etc, just everything is awesome from him lol. Heard them all...really can't wait to see what he makes next.

Congrats a little buttface that passes out on stage when he isn't even dancing that wears a ripped off green mickey mouse costume stole your music because his own stolen music didn't have enough variety of stolen-ness. You should be so proud.

Not really worried about that but this is actually a big step up for any electronic producer especially at Sean?????????s age. As a DJ I know how messy it can be to search for good music mainly because the tools are becoming more available for the average Jo to create stuff these days. The times when you had to buy a roland tb 303 synth hooked up with a guitar amp with cables running across the room to get a unique Acid house sound is over. Anyone can get into it and become an artist with amazing accurate sounds. This however has its cons due to unskilled musicians getting on Beatport and into the market. There is more crap out there than good music today.

I believe this is a great achievement and even though Joel is a prick when it comes to media and some of his stuff is really overrated (Even for a minimal tech house listener) It still is one of the great producers of the time listening to Seandroids stuff. FYI it's a live stream he wasn't playing it as part of his set Ckid just listening.
