Wasn't the island at least partially man made as well? Would make sense for the site to be as big as it needed to be and not any bigger.

Entirely man made, I believe. The same as with the island Saw sits on. Even if the site were especially condensed, surely storing the track actually in the water would be a no no [lol]

There's no way it could have been dropped by a crane, or HSE would be on site and have the project shut down temporarily. I don't think it could have been stored near the edge of the water and then fallen in, because of it's position in the water - facing in length ways, as it was.

So... why? We'll probably just never know and it will be one of those little things that doesn't matter at all and yet will bug me forever. [lol]

I think that was just the closest spot to where the piece would go in the layout. Apparently putting it in the water was easier than maneuvering it when positioning it with the rest of the track. It rains in England anyways so I guess they figured it wouldn't be a big deal.

BTW the whole drop is up now, and it looks pretty cool. Very unusual, but a lot of fun with the hangtime at the top.

after talking to one of the construction workers it seems it wasent droped. it was knocked off its blocks by a forklift and HSE have been there but have deemed it an unproventitive accident and allowed the project to continue as all relevent paperwork and caustions have been adheared to.

I don't know if you have to have a Facebook account to view it, but here's a video of them lifting the track out:

http://www.facebook.com/video/video.php ... 6567069815

EDIT: Forget that, I just noticed that the video is backwards. This is a video of them LOWERING the track into the water, gazag. It's marketing by Merlin again, getting people talking about the project.

Back to the construction; like I said previously, I'm currently very invested in a construction project much closer to home, so I haven't been following this yet at all. But, seeing the drop constructed has got me very excited about this project again! The drop looks seriously cool, and I can just imagine the plane wing at the bottom of the drop that you swoop under, this is going to be really sweet!

The trackwork is entirely complete.

Some of the theming construction has begun. You can see the side of the fuselage of the plane at the bottom of the drop.

Awesome pic Gouldy - good find.
That drop is going to be epic, especially being whipped round in the back on the way down, gonna give you some sweet air and lateral at the same time.
I feel a meet coming on - get the original UK WWS crew back together.
I can then officially call you 'swarm-bro' instead of 'stealth-bro'.

This has to be one of the very best single pieces of theming ever created?
