Well we have Dinosaurs Alive! coming to CP for next season, so this is typically the time that we start discussing what the Point will be putting in the following season. Unlike previous years, this year we already seem to have reports of what some sources may/may not know and what is being reported. Most sources and websites say that a coaster will indeed make it to the Point in 2013, and it is suggested to likely be a B&M. Intamin has been the creator of 6 of CP's coasters (Maverick, Top Thrill Dragster, Wicked Twister, Millennium Force, Jr. Gemini, and Disaster Transport) including the 4 most recent additions. B&M has been responsible for only 2 of CP's cosasters (Mantis and Raptor), so it would make sense that B&M would provide the next coaster, especially with some of their more successful designs since working at CP (Floorless, Flying, Dive Machine, Wing Rider, etc.). It has also been noted in various reports that the front of the park near either Disaster Transport or the area near Raptor and Blue Streak are leading candidates for location.

Could 2013 finally be the year that Cedar Point adds their 18th coaster, or will Point fans around the world need to wait at least one more year? Vote and share thoughts below!

What do YOU think is coming to Cedar Point in 2013?

I've heard that story about some design issues for the coaster which is why they never said anything. I heard it on a podcast but they in turn heard it form the Dippin' Dots guy.

Personally I dont think "The Point" will get a coaster in the near future. However, I do see them doing what happened to the Texas Giant to Mean Streak.

I have been thinking about that and with NTG being as big of a hit as it is, CP would be smart to do it with Mean Streak.

RMC also said at the IAAPA that they would be having a big year in 2013.

What rides besides Mean Streak are candidates for a Texas Giant Treatment?

Ah yes I forgot about that poor thing just sitting there rotting...In my honest opinion SOB wouldn't be too terribly exciting as a steel ride because it would be a pretty piss poor layout to have for a hypercoaster unless they changed/added ALOT considering they would have a MUCH better hyper on the other side of the park.

I've heard rumors that the antique cars over by Raptor are on the way out next year and something very interesting may be taking their place.

There have been rumors of a Colossus (SFMM) rehab floating around for a while and while I would be sad to see it leave I thing that it has some potential.

On another note RMC said that they are going to be building, not rehabbing, a woodie made entirely with their topper-track system

That is correct. From what I have read that would be the first plan if indeed a coaster is coming.

Sorry to go off topic, but I heard rumors that SFMM is going to do a TG revamp on Colossus. Can anybody confirm this?

EDIT:
Sorry bottom_feeder, didn't see you posted that already.
So, my friend came up to me the other day and asked if I wanted a frozen banana, and I said no, but I want a normal banana later, so... yea.

If they did that then they would have to add/change alot. Just like SOB...it would be a fairly boring steel coaster without altering it alot.

I voted other because as the pattern goes, a coaster is not in the near future, probably some piece of crap ride or some whack thing like dinosaurs.
Thats what I THINK will happen, what I HOPE will happen is tear down mean streak place in kick ass B&M, or revamp it like Texas Giant.

Why revamp it like Texas Giant? Seems like such a waste of time and money. Must cost an absolute fortune to do it, just seems stupid. From a marketing perspective as well, you would think a brand new coaster would boost sales and appeal more to the GP over a re-furbed coaster that was totally shiz beforehand? It would get us enthusiasts to the park to try it out but theres not many of us!

Tear it out and build a record breaking giant dive machine or something cool.

Large wing rider or Dive Machine I reckon. Something fairly rare.

If they were to tear out Mean Streak, I feel like they would want to build a wooden coaster in its place. I could see them ripping it out and building a GCI racer/dueler because then they would have a newer racer AND a high end wooden coaster to complement Blue Streak a little better. I can't really see them going and taking it out without building another wooden one in its place. 17 coasters and only 1 wood? Plus if they build the rumored B&M in 2013, that would give them 18, and they could take out Mean Streak and build on that plot without losing a coaster, and perhaps gain one if they put in a duel track. As much as people say the record doesn't matter, I think they like having it because it's a good marketing tool.

I think it would be better if they're pulled an SFMM and focused on "creatively fixing" rides like they did with X2 and Superman since quite frankly they have enough roller coasters.

A RMC fix wouldn't be a bad idea, especially since Mean Streak is/was so similar to Texas Giant layout wise. A gimmick year where they ran Gemini or the last few cars of Iron Dragon backwards wouldn't be a bad idea either. I doubt Blue Streak would do well backwards since the PTC trains seem to behave differently track-wear wise and Cedar Fair ignores critical wooden ride issues about as well as a tea party member handles basic math.

Personally I think their ride focus after Dragster has been very well thought out. They really needed a new water ride after they lost one for Maverick, and the flat ride collection really helps the park.

I would disagree... with steel tracking, I don't think they'd have to change a lot. That would be one hell of a roller coaster with airtime.

I think that they would have to add more airtime hills. Alot of what SOB is/was was the two giant helices. I wouldn't see a need for a MCBR if they made it steel, and they could do a double up on the second hill. The could smooth out the hill where the loop used to be or even put it back in. They could also completely revamp the ending to have alot more hills. It wouldn't be excessively boring, but I really think that they would have to change a decent amount in terms of banking and hills to make it a REALLY good ride. Otherwise it would just be a pretty good ride and with DB there it would certainly be the much lesser of the two.

^I was talking about Colossus. I agree that SoB's layout wouldn't be anything special at all with Iron Horses.

Oh ok my mistake. Colossus would be ok if they took out the MCBR and put the camelbacks back in. I just think the big high up turns would be somewhat boring for a steel racer, kinda like Gemini's middle part, but it will still be fun with the racing aspect I suppose (That is...if they ever raced).

On Colossus you could replace those turns with ones like this. Image

True, but that would also require alot of reworking the layout and structure which would go back to my first thought of altering the ride alot.

I say no RMC renovation and replace Mean Streak with a prefab. That would be awesome, and maybe they can fit another section of the park with maybe a family coaster or something.
