Hello All,

In line with other major websites on the internet, on January 18th 2012 Coaster Crazy will shutdown it's website for 12 hours in protest of proposed legislation called the "Stop Online Piracy Act".

This act, if passed, would largely disrupt the internet as we know it. It would place unnecessary burdens and technical complexity on website site operators such as Oscar and I, impose unreasonable sharing restrictions on websites such as this one, and disrupt the innovation and progression of open source software. Most importantly however it would enable large corporations to "disable" free speech when ever it was convenient for them, as well as permit these organizations to intercept traffic and alter the flow of the internet on the basis of protecting their intellectual property.

It is my personal opinion that the burden of protecting intellectual property is the responsibility of the right holders to enforce in a court of law. A burden and responsibility that falls on the right holders and the right holders alone, not one that should be bared by the providers and users of the internet.

I support this move.

Hopefully the result of a bunch of fat white old people that don't know the difference between an IP address and an email address will be in your favor.

This guy blew the lid on SOPA and explained the sinister origins of it.

Good to hear about these protests.

It's funny how day-by-day, more and more supporters of SOPA are denouncing support for it.
Oh, were you expecting something here?

Don't really care much for the video, but look at the first comment... "The internet is blocked in China and north Korea, just so you know where we are headed."

The land of the "Free"? [lol]

It's a joke that something like this was ever even suggested.

Those of you with Android phone may already know about this, but it would a good app to get, if you haven't already;

How does your government even plan to keep control over this properly? I realise that a lot of Americans would be affected, but those who know how the internet works would surely be able to get past this quite easily, unless all ties with other countries were just completely and entirely cut [lol]

I like how SOPA is losing supporters, and more people are going Anonymous.

Wouldn't they rather devote their energy to stopping the wind?

I'm really starting to believe that our modern government can't produce any sensible legislation or programs.

What do you mean starting? Congress had a 9% approval rating at the end of last year. Nine percent. Polygamy, communism, and the BP oil spill have higher approval ratings than that.

I'll let Jon Stewart summarize my thoughts on the current congress:

I'd like to know how these fat white idiots are going to censor the internet. I doubt many people in the know are very willing to help with this bullshit. Anyone with a brain can see that this is only going to hurt the corporations that it claims to protect. Ought to be interesting to see their justifications when they don't know the first thing about computer networks, the internet, or the outside world, for that matter.

so essentially, the whole point of SOPA was this.
-create content that people will buy
-make content fairly expensive.
-exclusively host software for downloading illegal copyrighted files
-maybe even host those files, and provide a search to find embedded files for download, through the client.
-profit for a while from downloads of the copyrighted music illegally by using the statistics gained to promote the music.
-lay low, let the piracy grow. (yo ho ho)
-point out what has been happening, claim that they are the victims of the debacle
-Back the SOPA bill, allowing them to sue anyone they find AROUND THE WORLD to have committed any kind of "piracy" or distribution of music without full, documented permission.
-profit. love loads of dirty, unjust profit.
Cradled by two loving arms that I'd die for,
One little kiss and Felina goodbye.

^The bill targets infringing links and such too. Links to YouTube videos would be considered "piracy", as would embedded images, and more. Basically, if this bill passes, it's pretty safe to say that almost every forum on the Internet will be taken down because they are illegal.
