So I've noticed that a lot of people are having trouble with the fact that the mac pack extractor no longer works on OSX Lion. As a result, I've decided that, as a computer science and engineering major, I might have the skills to make an updated version of it that runs on Lion. However, I have no idea what the format of tracks are like, nor do I know what the format of the packages are like.

So my question is this: does anyone here know how I could contact the developer of the windows version of the packager and possibly get some advice on where to start? Thanks!

Also, if anyone else has any Mac development experience and would like to give me some pointers on that, I would much appreciate it.

One last note: this project will likely only take place if I don't have an internship this summer, and at this point, my opportunities on that front look pretty promising. So don't get too expectant about this.

Man I've been waiting months for someone to take on this project. Lion totally ruined NL for me. I just stopped everything completely because it was a pain using a VM just to extract files.

Really hoping you go through with this... Not saying I don't want you to land in a internship though.
This is not my signature.

I can't find any way to contact Tia nor her daughter, I think you might have to go to Ole and see if he has any way to talk to them.

Well, I sent an email to Phil Hilton, who wrote the mac version. We'll see what happens.

Hmmm interesting. I'm indifferent about the packager project, might be cool to do if you can find a way to get the right start or find who you need for help.

So what is this internship, then?

The internship that's most likely to take off is with a local startup called LifeCubby (lifecubby.me). They want to stop outsourcing their development, so they're looking for interns. I've got an interview scheduled for sometime later this week.

I thought the all powerful macs that are superior to everything else could at least run a basic emulator but I guess not.

Jesus, how did something like this immediately degrade into mac-bashing? I posted that I might be interested in helping out the community and all you guys can say about it is how bad macs are? Grow the love up.

Well excuse me while I go learn about something relevant to my field and not expect to get flamed for it.

I say do it. Learning about Macs and how to modify them is the next big step for computer science. Everyone and their grandmother can modify PCs and PC applications. Not too many people can actually do a lot of things with Mac applications.

It's an astonishingly easy and numerous series of jokes.

Sometimes you have an avatar that is twice as tall as what is allowed.

I used Mac's, I would be very happy right now. I'm glad that you are doing this though, as I'm sure it will benefit the NL Community as a whole

That post was probably significantly funnier than it would have been had I not been intoxicated. But still, I thought it deserved mention.

And yws Jcoasters, that's exactly my sentiments. I thought this was something that was going to benefit everybody, but apparently some people thing it will just give them another reason to rat on macs.

Wow, that will be helpful. Thanks for that link!!!
Unfortunately, though, it's looking very likely that I will be working this summer, so my time will be very limited. I'll probably at least start it in my spare time, but I don't expect it to be finished by the end of this summer.
