I think this is a good way to add a new twist to an existing ride. They should do the same to Irn Bru [:P]

They actually de-intensified the rides. When the train ran normally the reverse trip was actually faster. The launch sends the riders at 70mi/h and the reverse fall sends them at 80mi/h. Now you go faster forwards.

A: What makes you think they won't have the same LIMs on the spike (it has to get back over that tophat still), and B: since when does a ~200' drop equal 80mph? I get about 77mph for a 200' fall under ideal conditions, meaning no friction or air resistance to slow the train down.

EDIT: Unless that vertical track is 242' and the drop is 218'...then I could see where you got the numbers from. The numbers I saw on rcdb and I remember from before were a 218' spike, but I just found another source that said 242' spike. I guess they might accelerate the train a bit downwards, although it doesn't look like it. Wish I could've ridden SFoT's version...I rode Chiller the day before it crashed, and was at SFoT that summer. Freeze (along with all Premier coasters I think) was still closed at that time. Too bad, looks awesome.

My first point still stands though.

The elements of this ride in order:

Load
Transfer
Launch
Stinger
Horse Shoe
Needle

The launch speed is manually adjustable within the PLC, normal values between 63 and 78 to account for windage, daily unit friction values, and air temperature.

In order for a successful cycle the launch speed only needs to be high enough to clear the stinger and horse shoe elements and to get the first two cars of the unit on to the LIM set on the needle.

The LIM Set on the needle is capable of forward and reversing thrust depending upon entrance and exit velocities of the incoming unit.

For backwards launch, slightly slower launch velocities will be used to avoid guest knocking them self out on the grab bar or the seat back in front of them. More reliance on the capabilities of the needle LIM set is required for a successful cycle completion.

I read that it does accelerate and push you down through the needle. @Mikey, Mabe your right. If so then I have to discredit my source.

How much more reliance is needed for the LIMs on the "needle"? Riders there are already experiencing at least -1G acceleration by default assuming constant velocity or greater. I'm guessing it'll still just have a slight acceleration (as opposed to maintaining velocity) to make it a bit stronger than before, but still at or below the launch force...?

Im actually upset with this. I havent had a chance yet to ride either of these, NORMAL. i guess six flags hates positive acc g's, haters.

She will valley in the event the LIMs on the needle fail, there is simply not enough momentum generated from the launch to complete the cycle.

It still has to make it over on the forwards trip, and I doubt this is a super permanent step. I still don't really see the problem but whatever.

S:TE at SFMM was a "we made it actually work again" fix since it was in an embarassing condition, whereas Mr. Freeze's problems were more on the sliding table mechanism, which this isn't a fix for and that has been "fixed" years ago.

They run similar hardware setups so I can't see why they couldn't participate in this. It was left up to the parks as to weather they wanted to participate in this or not.

I tend to stay away from this ride and stick to Batman, Titan, and Texas Giant because I just don't find it all that enjoyable (just my opinion, and I tend to get off with a headache), but this is worth trying at least once.

I think it's safe to say yes [lol] Considering Six Flags' new formula for park operation:

*Change absolutely anything and everything possible with any and every ride we own every year --> rename them something different to produce the illusory effect that a poopload of activity is happening at our parks.


Notice I didn't technically bash this method... I mean I'm sure they're actually succeeding in the eyes of the GP. Superman: Escape from Krypton was a cool transformation, and at least they're keeping their Stand-Ups (Chang, Iron Wolf) rather than bailing on them completely!
