I definitely hear what you're saying, DC, as far as this coaster being a 'what if' that's thoroughly grounded in reality. I was kind of giving you a hard time about the Immelmann =P

Your designs are phenomenal, I'd look forward to something new from you if it were inspired by a Kardashian wedding. Well, maybe that's where I'd draw the line...

I hope to make it to SFOG this summer, so I'm definitely curious to see how Scorcher rides (I'm hoping to find out that I can, in fact, enjoy a stand up roller coaster as an adult). Wasn't it the last stand-up built?

GerstlCrazy, I have a couple spots that will be around 0G, and maybe 4-5 spots at between .2G and .4G. It's not intended to be an airtime machine or anything. If I was specifically making what I'd like to see in a standup, I'd probably have a bit more airtime.

I have a few quick rotations...not a ton, but I wasn't going for a particularly compact ending like a lot of the existing Standups, instead substituting in a bit of build up to an interesting last element or two. It's a good mix though between normal banking/forces/shapes and quick rotations, so like any good B&M inverting coaster, the design won't allow riders to get too comfortable (figuratively) and therefore lose interest. Just a warning, I know I will make some people mad with the very end of the ride, but it's an intentional feature designed very specifically with both an overall shape and details that'll add a lot of realism.

Basically, if I was building a 1990 Dinn coaster in NL, sure I could give it a drop like Takabisha, but would that make sense in the context of the design and therefore be appreciated as realistic? Don't think so. Generally speaking, I have a lot more room for excitement in a B&M coaster of any sort than I would a Dinn, but I definitely wanted to include some quirky details that may not be particularly exciting, but would really make it come alive as something they might have actually done. No worries though...even some of B&M's best designs have these features, so nothing on my ride should kill the overall fun.

Thanks for all the comments guys. I'll be showing a couple screenshots for another ride soon, and of course I'll use this thread to update everyone on rides like this standup as I make progress.

You're wrong you're supposed to make it neon, call it something french, and then say it's original if any questions anything.

Good thing I don't speak French. Wouldn't want to walk into that pitfall.

Thanks again for the birthday wishes. Here are your pics as promised.

First, I wanted to show the old-school wooden coaster I mentioned earlier. The original idea was to design a wooden coaster as if it were revived from an old, overgrown and run-down amusement park as part of some sort of big renovation. Only issue is that would take a lot of 3ds, and I already have enough on my plate. Though simple, I like what I have of the layout (plus what I have planned), and I think it really works for the given style. Should be a pretty atmospheric scene if I finish it. Not a whole lot to see, but I think it's an interesting idea/project for what it is.

Next is a pretty sweet Intamin prefab wooden coaster. I think I hit just the right blend of originality and adherence to style on this one. The vast majority of the layout is in place and nearly finalized...just trying to finalize a few details of one section. There's a specific focus on a certain experience that isn't often explored by existing companies, and what I think are some clever setups and details designed to achieve that goal without compromising anything else. Though it won't be a terrain coaster like say Boulder Dash or The Beast, the landscaping should be decently interesting, and should improve the overall experience. This one is more likely to be finished and released.

Very cool. I especially like the "old" woodie. For whatever reason, those always strike me as aesthetically pleasing. Looking forward to their releases.

They both look awesome, can't wait to see them when (if?) they get released.

Well I mean I used the term "if" myself...you know these aren't my main designs I'm working on.

I really love stand-ups. Chang was fun, Mantis was more fun (it was running trimless when I went). Front row on stand-ups are pretty unique and awesome, and backrows are intense. My calfs never hurt, so I'm always in good shape. I actually enjoy the heavy positives...it feels really crazy alongside the banking transitions.

All-in-all, I wish there were more B&M stand-ups in the world, but understand why - they aren't best for everyone, which isn't a spectacular move by today's parks. Glad you're making one though DC.

Glad to see I'm not the only one that likes positive Gs more than negs. Really don't like the butterfly feeling.

Didn't say that I necessarily liked positives more than negatives, but both are equally cool to me. I was just saying that the I actually enjoy the heavy positives on stand-ups, especially since I don't get sore calves.

<3 <3 the look of the older woodie. I honestly most wish that one to be released, even though it seemed the least of your priorities haha.

Working on something new to switch it up from adding scenery to my other big projects. Pictured is an Intamin mega coaster created as if it was designed shortly after Superman SFA/DL/SFNE, with slightly updated trackwork quality, but intentionally not to the level of Millennium Force and Expedition GeForce. Both of those rides were from the same general time period, but were designed completely differently than the Superman trio. What that means is you'll see some (again, intentionally) less fluid trackwork with harder vertical transitions, no heartlining (guarantee you there is absolutely none on the Superman trio), no particularly quick banking transitions, a bit of straight track here and there, and laterals that match those on the trio, among other details throughout. The layout has gone through a lot of revisions, and I really, really like what I have now, though I still need to complete the trackwork for the ending. I did what I could to make the whole design original enough to stand as a 4th design of that style (though it won't necessarily retain that Superman theme...haven't decided on that yet), but also to make sure the shaping, layout, element selection and other details can be clearly defined as being an Intamin mega coaster design from 1999-2001.

Thanks again for your thoughts Kyle. Here are a few more pics I forgot to put up here, for those following.

As you can see, supporting is coming along. After I finish supporting I'll go through everything with a fine-toothed comb and make sure it's all up to par.

Fun facts: There are 11 points of airtime distributed throughout the 5484' layout. Three of the hills share the strongest negative forces of around -1.2G, including an S hill which is the third hill from the end. The final two hills have strong air, but intentionally not as powerful as the previous hill so as to blend forces, airtime duration, and high speeds for that section of the finale.

Good to hear about the airtime variation - personally think its really important to make a ride re-ridable!

One tiny suggestion however (and it is very tiny) - I'd like to see the bracing support connect slightly higher so that the end is essentially in line with the connector. It'd be prudent engineering to help the forces transfer through there and reduce bending in the upper part of the vertical support. the best example I can find is the support at the bottom of this picture:

I've looked at a lot of examples from Supermen rides and your within the range of what they've designed so like I said its not a big deal, if any deal at all - I just personally think it'd be better engineering wise :P

Looks like it should be a good ride!
