Note that this is NOT a mockup of SDC's RMC woodie, but a mockup of another, future RMC project yet to be announced. However, according to a few people on the inside, this will be the final product (minus autosupported structure) of this so called "inversion."

If you look closely, the track does not fully invert, think of it more as a overbanked camelback.

If it rolls as much as it does in that NL model, you'd be pretty safe to call it an inversion, let's be honest. As mkingy quite clearly shows, this element rolls as much (actually more, by the looks of it) as Hydra's cobra, and I don't think there'd be any hesitation in calling that an inversion, so why the controversy?

Well we'll know in the next few weeks. If it was just going to rotate back the same way I doubt they would change the direction of the bents though so it may be a full roll

why do they even bother with the wooden supports when, in essence, it's just a steel coaster with square tracks?

The tracks are topper track where the whole track is wood except for the top two layers that are steel. This is NOT the same type of track used for New Texas Giant.

Zero G Roll already, where is the announcement and when?

This coaster will still classify as a steel coaster because of those steel rails, also it will probably still ride as a steel coaster. So yeah, I'd agree with Jay here. A waste of all this perfectly fine wood to create a hybrid coaster, when you could have also used it to build an awesome true wooden rollercoaster.

The one reason that I would say that it has to be classified as a wooden coaster is because Tremors got the Topper Track on one of its turnarounds (I think it was something like 9000 feet of track or something) and still ran the train fine. Rattler at SFFT also has some topper track, but I'm not sure how much.

The reason why it has to be steel is the top 2 layers of wood are where the the wheels run along and the bottom 6 are there for extra support, so technically this coaster is running along an entirely steel track placed on top of wood.

I stand by defining it as a steel coaster because of the lack of the classic tracking style of the coaster, and the fact that the entire track is made of this topper track.

How about just say it's a hybrid and call it a day? Who cares what it's made of; the experience is what matters.

Dirk, they used all this perfectly fine wood to create what I'm sure will be an awesome hybrid ride, instead of using it to create an awesome "true" wooden ride. What's your point? Go ride one of the other thousands of "true" wooden coasters if that's what you want.

All these arguments just seem so incredibly silly to me. It's kinda ridiculous seeing as very few people involved actually seem to use logic in their thought process.

That's fine, but my point stands. This will be a very unique and high quality ride...why ask for it to be the same as others? If you want that and can't appreciate what they're doing, just go ride a different wooden coaster. There are plenty to choose from.

I'd also argue that it's steel. My post post was just saying that the track isn't completely steel, although the only parts the wheels touch are.

Either way, it looks amazing, and I really want to see the full layout.

Just to throw a wrench into this "it's a steel hybrid vs it's a woodie," they pump concrete into the steel section of the rails on the Topper Track, not sure if thats what also happens with the Iron Horse track as well, but anyhow, here's how it looks.

Lol I think A113 has proven the point that the thought process should go farther than the one in his picture. As far as I'm concerned, topper track is like regular wooden track except the steel part (sorry, never learned the term) is stronger. Iron Horse track, on the other hand, is entirely steel so I don't think we can disagree that that's steel.

Aside from the topic name? lol. It's important because if ends up being defined as a wooden coaster, it will make ratings lopsided and undermine the good wooden coasters that actually do something interesting.

A113, what people (including myself) are saying is that the steel that it is touching is not a sheet of metal attached to wood like all wooden coasters, it is a large layer of steel resting on 6 layers of wood.

Also, for those saying it is a waste of wood, I disagree. It saves a ton of money. This project is going to cost SDC $8 Million. If they had made it a normal steel structured coaster, it would probably cost about $25 Million.

I'm not sure about the concrete itself, but the steel track is hollow, and they fill it with something. If go to the site of the builder, I'm sure you can find it if you look for it.

It says they use their "non-shrink design mix." No details on what that is though.
