And we're definitely going to Universal Orlando/IoA next month. Was there anything that anyone wanted a report on or pictures of? Also, does anyone know of a good Android app for measuring G forces on a coaster? Perhaps one that will graph them out?

About the apps: as it turns out, measuring G's on a roller coaster is a lot harder than it sounds. The accelerometers on the phones produce a lot of noise, and without filtering that out, the graph that it would produce looks like an earthquake. Unfortunately, filtering out noise isn't exactly trivial. There are a lot of ways to do it, and while I'm sure some of them are better than others for roller coasters, I don't know which, and I don't know if anyone does.

tl;dr: I've tried a couple of different apps for iOS to do this, and they all produced similar (terrible) results. I wouldn't expect Android apps to fare any better.

I wonder if I could just take the average slope from the graph? Otherwise, is there a cheap piece of hardware that will do what I'm looking for?

yah brah. Seriously, though. I'm interested to see how quick the changes are on Rip Ride Rocket. And I'm thinking about a Hulk recreation.

You know pretty much all of those are just a poopty guess based on not even measuring G's right?

It's like measuring rainfall based on how cloudy a satellite image is. It can't work well.

That kind of sucks. Are there any sort of portable accelerometers that will record it's measurements?

My friend has one that he bought for the USGS that cost 15K but I don't think he is supposed to loan it out for roller coasters lol

lol. Maybe 15K is a bit much for an accelerometer.

yeah, just look at the website of the ride's manufacturer. they usually have tons of technical information

I have been searching manufacturer sites. And there's definitely more than what RCDB gives you (lift angle, lift speed, max G's) but I'm trying to record specific forces for specific points, along with the time between the change in force.
