Did anyone else find the opening ceremony kind of... lame? It was, quite honestly, boring. I got up and left the room in the middle of it. I mean, why would the whole world want to see a huge showing of the history of Britain? It's not like they've never hosted the Olympics before.

I dunno I thought it was pretty nice. Probably not Beijing level, but that's because Beijing is in China where they probably perfected that crap under the whip of the government/whatever.

Stereotypes/jokes aside, still cool.

I don't understand how in their music thing they skipped Gorillaz and Spice Girls. It's not like the music was of any quality beyond the late 70's anyways.

Who the hell was that rapper?

Edit:
I want North Korea to host the Olympics. They do people displays like this every weekend that are better than what I saw today.

The first 2 scenes were really cool, I thought, and the countryside to industrial revolution transition was pretty damn impressive. Probably my favorite part of it was the forging of the ring and when they brought all of the rings together into the center of the stadium. But the literature sequence, as good an idea as it was, was not well designed in my opinion. Then that music sequence....again, I appreciate what they were trying to do, but that was the worst possible way they could have done it. And I don't even know what happened between that and the parade of nations.

The torch bit was cool. I WANT BECKHAM'S BOAT! I liked the symbolism with the young athletes from Britain carrying it the last lap around the track. And that cauldron was beautiful.

Overall, I would say it was pretty cool, with good ideas all the way through, but they should have gone with some different designs to showcase the same aspects of britain.

Mr Bean was HILARIOUS! and the bond bit with the Queen, also hilarious. I loved it all. Skipped the speeches and the hundreds of Athletes coming in. Typical Americans shouting at the camera.

I felt it kind of wrong that the US team all came out with cameras and stuff, I mean most of the bigger countries had one or two, but certainly not nearly as many as the US. I guess it shows the world where our values are
What are these for?

It was British. Hence why you Americans didn't find it as interesting. For me, it was a celebration of everything that makes the UK one of the best countries in the world, and a celebration of what makes London so special.

Jacques Rogge got it right when he said that in a sense the Olympics came home yesterday, as the inventors of the majority of modern sports it will be the best Olympics the world has ever seen.

We didn't take ourselves too seriously in that ceremony, it was about normal everyday volunteers having fun and welcoming people to our great city, they certainly weren't whipped into shape (cough Beijing cough).

Was impressed we didn't mess it up with a major technical fault (like the big rings not lighting up or something stupid) Enjoyed it actually, pleasantly surprised.

I was anticipating something utterly horrendous accompanied by massive technical issues, as well mkingy; but, was also pleasantly surprised by the opening ceremony. A decent story of British industrialisation interspersed with our "we're not taking this all that seriously, pissing about" type humour.

CKWMW: that rapper is Dizzee Rascal. He's certainly not my kind of music, but he's a pretty good representation of popular British music, atm. He's a rapper, but it's not all about guns and murder and drugs - rather Britishly he doesn't take himself seriously and the whole thing is just a piss about (In similar fashion as a group like LMFAO, I suppose). More importantly, he's from the area of London where the Olympic park stands.

Like I say, nothing like my kind of music, but it's easy to see why he was chosen to play such a big role.

I really enjoyed the lack of dentists and orthodontists during the ceremony. Really made it feel like the UK.

It's funny because I hate america. I would happily give up all my money so I could live in Canada or most of Europe.

EDIT: Mostly because of our education system.

I also learned out the other day that we have the highest gun ownership rates. Even more than say the middle east. That surprised me... for the worse.

No, I just think guns are over-used. They are not necessary unless used properly for war, light hunting, and possibly defending yourself if you live in a dangerous area. Otherwise, they are useless. They are a tool for defense, not a collectible item. Although they are cool [:)]

But we need them to retain our status the only country that isn't a third world poophole in the worldwide top five for gun murders.

Also when you're too fat to walk up three flights of stairs without getting winded the .357 and F-350 you own really makes you feel like your **** still works
