How did this not get a topic? Looks great imo. I couldn't find any good layout shots, and the video doesn't show much, but here's a screencap of an overview.
still not a fan of these barrel rolls, and still such a crappy layout, too me that helix looked liked the most intersting part of the original and they totally abandon it.
ofcourse and that looked fun too, but the helix is what caught my atention. I just feel like they just put in overbanks wherever they wanted and the barrel roll is kind of, "oh hey we find out how to make it work, so we're gonna throw in it there somewhere"
edit, didn't it take nearly 2 years to complete NTG? If so are we sure this will be done for the 2013 season?
Looks like they'll be restoring the full original height of the first drop, plus now it'll be at an 81-degree angle to boot. Forget the rest of the ride, that in itself is worth it. I don't go "wow" when looking at coasters a lot anymore, but that drop did. It looks completely insane.
Looks like a neat ride. I'm not a fan of the awkward sideways hill thing on the quarry wall top but no biggie. At least the drop still exists despite being a bit nicer than they could have made it.
Anyone else notice the more open cars when compared to the Houston one?
The helix wasn't nearly as good as you seem to think it was. It CRAWLED through it, and there were no real forces (other than the train washboarding back and forth).
I timed it off a POV video - it took *49* seconds to make it through the helix. To put that in comparison, you could Batman the Ride, from the top of the life to the brake run, and then sit on the breaks for 8 seconds, in the time it takes to creep through that helix.
Anyways, the reason is obvious. Friction coefficient of the Iron Horse track/train system is obviously higher than a traditional wooden coaster - Texas Giant lost a helix too, and in that case it even gained height.
This is probably going to be the most epic new coaster of 2013 simply because of that unbelievably epic triple direction change drop with awesome airtime. Not even factoring in the disco tunnel, random outward 90* banked turn and overbanked double down.

All ever people complained about was the incredibly boring slow helix, and now that it's being replace with a 0g roll, 3 airtime hills, an overbank and outward banked turn people are questioning it? lol
Yeah guys, the helix of slow boring and frankly just painful death will not be missed. I actually got to ride the original drop before it got shortened and shortened, this ride is going to kick some serious ass!
