It's not a designer briefcase, it's a computer game [lol]

I think it probably just has something to do with prior relationships already established with the people who run that board. Oh well, big woop. It's not that big of a deal. I prefer this community to that of NLE, and obviously TPR has the biggest community in terms of coaster fans, so for general conversation, I'll lurk over there.

It's about true with any product/company though. DC's points are fairly correct, to be honest.

A really significant problem concerning realism is the way NL1 determines the speed. I tested the speed through a top hat (inside), and then outside, same height. There was absolutely no difference, though in real world speed would've been considerable faster through the inside top hat.

I hope this is fixed with NL2 ;P

It will

"Right now the FVD tool uses the old NL1 physics engine but will later use the same physics engine that the simulator in NL2 will use as soon it is finished."

Unless he's talking about some energy station thing.

Why would that be the case?

Yeah I don't see the speeds being different unless you're using Bible physics or something.

I presume he meant the spine being the same height, not the rails?

Well, if you make the track follow the same curve, the heartline curve is shorter and the apex is lower, so the train should be quicker through that.

If the heartlines follow to the same curve, the outside tophat has a longer curve, which could result in more friction and a slower train.

That's just my gut feeling.

Another example of the physics issues in nolimits is how a straight inline twisted track will ride at the same speed all the way through, when it should speed up as the train falls upsidedown and then slow down when it comes up. So essentially the speed is calculated there the train is connected to the track instead of the heartline of the train. I do hope they fix this in nl2.

^ True but the actual Center of gravity COG isn't really at the heartline either. It should be a little lower than the HL, not sure about inverted coasters though but different trains should have different cog lines for the physics to be more realistic.

Civil and mechanical engineers also rely on approximations for any calculated outcome depending on the situation. COG might be a little lower if a bunch of fat asses are riding or a little off to the side if the one side of the train is loaded heavier. aka y= >value1, < value2 x= > value3 < value4 under the limited conditions aka no one over 150 KG to ride etc...

BTW I only saw the 06 June update now on http://nolimitscoaster.de of the new support beams. Afraid I'll have to upgrade my PC. lol

^Even if Ole is going to release NL2, he should not wait more than a few years for it. NL is losing more and more users every day. Sure, there will be people who will never quit NL1, or jump right back in when NL2 comes out, me included. But others will move on and the community might not get as big as it used to be.

I for one have used NL very VERY little the last year or so just because it's almost getting boring doing the same thing. Sure when/if NL2 comes out I'll be using it like crazy again, but it has just turned into one of those things you don't find special anymore because it hasn't changed alot.

I thought the goal was still to get the game out in 2012?

I have a project I'm working on , but in the last 2 weeks I've gotten like 4 supports done. I'm going to have to get a new computer soon, whenever I can afford it and I just don't see myself installing NL on it
What are these for?

well said! If NL2 is not much easier to use, it won't prosper like NL1. This is why coaster games/simulators like coaster crazy and roller coaster rampage took the route they took.

If by some miracle this comes out around Christmas time, I know what I'm adding to my wishlist [:D]
I really want this to come out so that I can actually have enough room in the template to work on a Voyage recreation [8D]

shouldn't ole give news more often so we can get rid of so many doubts? It's been almost half year since the last update, and he said he would update the site every month, or he should say why he doesn't give news so often, it's kinda boring waiting only for news. Commonly when people make a new videogame they give a realase date... they don't say "no sooner no later", I mean he should think about NL fans, he's losing many of em for making em wait so much...

Yeah but most people who release video games aren't people, they're large scale businesses. Ole is... Ole. A man, with a life and plausibly other priorities.

^^Yea you got to give him some time. And as stated it isn't a huge business. It's a small, rag-tag team. It's gonna take a while
