The passage you quoted simply states that gays, lesbians, veganists, polygamists etc. are entitled to the same rights to practice their own religion and free-speech, not necessarily marriage. I'm very atheist, and very pro-gay, but blindly voting based on religion isn't any sillier than blindingly voting Democrat or Republican - a silly-silliness that Americans are silly enough to embrace.

To those of you bashing the "Vote Biblical, not Political" sign: how is that any different than those in this thread saying they're voting for Obama because he's in support of gay rights? Like it or not, people vote on social issues, and the Republican party is the Religious party.

It's good that you've got your own opinion and things, but... please don't really be as ignorant as this paragraph suggests that you are.

Be aware that you just compared voting for someone simply because they believe in the same sect of mythical sky being as them, regardless of policies - to voting for someone because their policies include equal rights for all fellow Humans. And what's worse, you did it with literally no sense of irony.

I would use irony if I wasn't giving an honest viewpoint carried by many people in our country. A vote for Romney isn't a vote for a mythical sky-being; it's a vote to uphold the Christian family values that they hold in such high regard. Things like gay marriage and abortion are the most important thing to these people, and you're not really in a position to tell them that they're wrong.

I always though that the well being of the country and thereby all the people living in it was most important, but correct me if I am wrong....

IMHO it is complete bullpoop that these people want to 'uphold the Christian family values'. If they want to uphold them it is their good right to do that for themselves. But to force other people to live the same way is almost a form of descrimination to me. The USA is so against all the Muslim countries have the Sharia, yet in their own country they are no even the slightest bit better.

Gouldy rural people don't have any actual problems here so they kind of invent them. I always found it amusing how the american farmer is the most subsidized person in the nation and yet they're balls deep into this Tea Party poop.

I mean really all the thousand person towns I know of with nobody within an hour of them in southwestern Illinois can totally afford an extensive school system, airport, snow cleanup, police department, fire department, water monitoring, road works, and more with just a thousand people paying taxes. The state DEFINITELY isn't footing the bill for that.

No one is in a position to tell anyone they're wrong about anything. But I, as everyone else, certainly am in a position to ridicule their stupidity.

I never fail to be shocked by the level of stupidity that can be found in the developed nations of the world, but none shock me more so than the US. Now obviously, I'm not saying everyone in the US is stupid, far from it - but there is a very obvious divide between modern, intelligent, forward thinking America and... the Bible Belt. One thing that is not a shock, though, is that it is that region from whence the most stupid cometh. [lol]

I hope you're not suggesting that Americans are arrogant hypocrites..... because we all know that Muslims are terrorists and need to be stopped.

+1. Watching Hick-Nation revolt against the Wisconsin union-workers last year was priceless.

Obama is not a great president, but Romney is just an idiot, plain and simple.

As much of a joke as this is, you can't help but agree with it's honesty:

Abe knows what's up.

So first you say it's ok to be against equal rights for everyone, now you say all Muslims are terrorists?

You've got a lot to learn....

Damn.... Some of you need to yank that thong out of your butt-crack, and lighten up. I know I haven't posted here in a while, but my terrorism post was littered with sarcasm.

As I said earlier, I couldn't be more in support of gay marriage. I couldn't live further from the Bible Belt, and the most religious person is my family is my mother who goes to church for Christmas and occasionally Easter. The only point I was trying to make with any of this is the lack of empathy you lot are showing towards an opposing viewpoint.

No one is asking you to agree with their stance on social issues, but I don't think it's too much to ask that people are willing to understand why the Bible Belt votes the way they do. As RCT-3-Crazy said, the similarities between the Christian South and Radical Muslims is uncanny. If you don't share their faith it sounds absolutely insane, but they feel they are saving souls by fighting gay marriage and other sensitive issues. Jihad is a very, very real concept, and simple xenophobia isn't going to ease the tensions between anyone.

I would say the odds are 8:1 that this is spun into me being too stupid/unwilling to see the rational viewpoint, despite the fact that I likely agree with whatever you actually have to say. Time for me to ride off into the sunset for another three years until I see another thread that interests me [;)] Stay classy, Coastercrazy

They arguably mostly don't even participate in capitalism.

All of the corn here died. ALL OF IT. Didn't even make it above waist height dead. No farmer money problems at all and not even a local complaint from it. We host goddamned "CornFest" and they still don't seem to really care.

I was secretly hoping Obama would win electoral college and not win the popular vote because I'm an asshole lol.

Well the american flag is now turned up side down in a big sense that everything will not be the same as it was once before. Does anybody remember an old tv movie called America maybe back 20 something years ago? This will remind of whats going to happen and I think i've had it with politics.

If those people have degrees from regionally accredited colleges and universities, it doesn't matter what the degree is in, they still have to take a certain number of science classes.
