new medicine is pretty good, and it seems the majority of us have seen them. They aren't me favorite band to see live, but they just have that matural rock and roll sound to them
What are these for?

They opened for the Melvins and ISIS on the ISIS farewell tour. Their guitarist is the Melvins road/sound guy, and sometimes he plays with Big Business I think.

More importantly, I saw f.ucking SWANS. Jesus christ. Most intense thing I've ever heard in my life.

Michael Gira could lead a cult. He has this weird charisma to him, where sometimes he looks like he thinks what he is doing is REALLY important (which it is, none of the bands I like would be around without them) and other times he's just jumping around the stage and babbling like a crazy person. The whole thing was surreal. I think the only thing that might come close to being as dense of a wall of sound as that is MBV or Sunn O))), or maybe Dino Jr, but that would be in a totally different way.

They always put on such a good show. I saw them a couple years ago when they played Moving Pictures in it's entirety.

Edit: Freddie, I looked up some of those bands you listed. I have a question for you. What's it like to be a hipster?

Yeah, they put on an even better show when your cousins with the Lighting Specialist and you know the band personally. Always sit in the lightboard, the best seats in the house. Last year on the Snakes & Arrows Tour I met Geddy's brother in the lights as well as the drummer from KISS.
YES!

Just saw this band in LA this past week, The Maccabees. I guess it was their first time coming to the states. They played some shows at smaller clubs in the area in between supporting Florence at much bigger venues. Photo was taken with the panoramic app on the iphone which is why everyone is all chopped up.

I also just bought tickets for the 2nd sold out night of Mumford & Sons at the hollywood bowl. My friend was telling me about how a year ago, he was watching them at the much more intimate Troubadour. Its funny how some bands blow up while others don't. Wish I had caught them before their sudden rise to fame.

I'd like to go to the Troubadour some time. Theres some really good live footage of Isis and Pelican from there, looks like a cool place.

oh .. lol . in my late teens there was a reoccurring line up at fender's ballroom in long beach , the opening band was no doubt, we knew gwen , so we went , they'd open up for fishbone. and this kind of disco ey / funky rock band called red hot chilie peppers that we kinda made fun of. in my opinion fishbone ought to have been the band to make it . kinda didnt see THAT coming. another time this kind of "new style" punk rock band played at this place called spanky's in a poophole city called riverside . the lead singer had dreadlocks and was spouting anti military rhetoric, after the show i called him on it and he apologized profuselely. the name of his band was "offspring"
another time these kids from poway played at a coffeeshop/venue down the hill from my house . they were kind of cool, they had a buzzcocks/jam etc kind of sound they were stoked that i liked their sound .. they were called BLINK .. they added 182 to their name not long after that . then this one time at a big mod scooter rally event in oakland i met this guy with kinda long curley hair in a parka out side where the vespas were parked. his name was billy joe and he had a band called "green day ". i thought it was a funny name for a band,i went to see them when they played the che cafe. they also had a power pop sound , which i thought was odd for a guy in cargo shorts and a tshirt . . then another time we went up to hollywood for a day road trip and this blonde guy was singing hilarious songs about homeless people and smoking weed out on melrose. i asked him his name and he said " oh, i'm beck " i said "oh, like jeff beck?" he laughed and said .."no i'm not that good.." life is weird ..

thanks for sharing that Jay, it's funny how much the attitudes of all those musicians have changed since making it big compared to their humble beginnings. I guess success will do that to you. Though I've heard beck is still a pretty cool dude. I've personally met everyone from Blink 182, and while Mark is still a generally nice guy, Travis and Tom have definitely been affected by their fame.

It's a great venue because of it's intimacy. The real bonus with that venue is the liquor license. Most other clubs in the LA/OC area don't offer the same benefit, though there is a newer venue in Orange County called the Observatory which has filled that gap for an intimate all ages club that serves alcohol and gets a good selection of talent.

Tonight I'm seeing two of my all time favorite bands together, both for the second time, Torche and Converge, along with Whips/Chains, Kvelertak, and New Lows. Ear drums to be destroyed. Drop Z motherfuc.kers.

Torche and Converge are cool. They were in LA a couple of weeks ago. I passed on it though. A show I really wanted to see but missed because they sold out really quick was Title Fight with Piano's become the teeth.

Going to Title Fight/Pianos on the 27th. Single Mothers are opening too and they're pretty great. Floral Green is absolutely amazing, one of my favorites of the year.

Also going to Gaza (second time seeing them), Code Orange Kids (new album is ridiculous, this is one of the best hardcore bands around right now), and Full Of Hell next week. That's gonna be scary violent.

bad ass. I love it when newer bands come around and dont align themselves with the "scene kid" hardcore. It just seems so much more authentic.
